I listened, that isn't really how it was said.
He was very vague and very "they MIGHT" not be done because they can make some room, and mentioned that Buddy would be a fit and he's heard some minor rumblings about Hart.
It wasn't anywhere near as confident as that tweet implies at all.

Let’s assume we sign Hart for $10-12 mil per. How much space would we have after that?
Posted on 8/6/21 at 2:39 pm to LSUJD_04
Plenty under the tax, but will be over the cap.

Buddy honestly isn't a perfect fit with the current roster, but he fits so well with Zion I think you have to try to figure it out.
Buddy and Graham playing off of Zion is faptastic

Never should have traded Buddy away in the first place. He’s been exactly what this team has been missing since he was drafted.
#DoItBig was starting to look really damn strong before tore his ACL in typical "Pels curse" fashion. That Rockets team was damn good, and we won that game. We were on quite a significant upswing.
Hindsight is 20/20, but can't blame Demps for this one. It had real potential (look at how much France was utilizing size to combat Team USA's athleticism). Cousins now is not the Cousins we traded for. Terrible luck. He was really starting to buy in, and him getting injured on a straight hustle play is cruel beyond imagination.

Kevin O’Connor also mentions Buddy as possible S&T guy for Hart on the Mismatch podcast. Not going to type out a transcript but the timestamp is 38:40ish for anyone interested.

I’d love to get Markkanen but I don’t see how we can afford him and I really want Hart back. I love the energy he brings and he’s not afraid to guard 1-4. If they can bring Hart back and bring someone like Paul Millsap to mentor Zion as the backup 4 is really like our roster the way it’s constructed. I think Graham will be a very solid starting PG and NAW will flourish at the 2 guard. Having someone like Garrett Temple should teach the backcourt a thing or two about the right way to be a pro.

I didn’t take that from what he said. He mentioned “what if you could get Buddy for Hart”, which is obviously a rumor going around. Then he mentioned that as of noon eastern time, there are a lot of options surrounding S&Ts for Hart and Markkanen. I didn’t take away that he meant Hart for Markkanen. Maybe I didn’t listen long enough though.

we are like $40M under the tax right now. We aren't even at the cap yet, not including Hart, Wenyen, Iwundu, and that's 13 roster spots.
Let's see:
BI $29,467,800
JV $14,000,000
Zion $10,733,400
Graham $10,930,233
Sato $10,000,000
Temple $5,000,000
Hayes $5,348,280
Kira $3,822,240
NAW $3,261,480
Murphy $3,053,760
Billy $$2,327,220 estimated
Naji $1,517,981
Didi $1,489,065
I believe that's $96,163,177. with 13 players. That's $16M under the cap, and $40M under the tax.
As i said, Iwundu can just be bought out to give the roster spot to Herb or someone else if Herb is taking a two way. Gabriel isn't guaranteed. So you either keep Hart or you bring in someone else to take that 14th spot, and do whatever with Herb or someone else for the 15th roster spot.
Maybe we will just be a under the cap team for the year, which would be advantageous if we want to absorb a bad contract for a late 1st or something at the trade deadline.

I’d offer Hart 4 years $46 million and Markkanen 3 years $45 mil. That’s $26.5 mil a year combines for both players leaving us around $8.5 mil if we had $35 million.

Why? No one has shown interest in hart so why would we bid against ourself?
Posted on 8/6/21 at 3:09 pm to Epic Cajun
I just re-listened and you’re probably right. Regardless, he doesn’t think we are done either.
Posted on 8/6/21 at 3:09 pm to supe12sta12z
He wants the old 'outbidding yourself' move. Very Pels.

We've done that once already this offseason...

when you have a chance to net a top 15 player, and Boogie was that before the injury, you shoot your shot. This is a shite take.
Top 15?
Hell Boogie came here, and immediately took over the team and was playing at MVP level.
Another Pelican great that flew too high to the sun--add him to the list.
We may in fact be cursed

That’s not like it’s a big overvalue of Hart. He was figured to get between $9-13 mil per. That’s a fair number for a 6th man type to me. I’d love to get him for the MLE and be able to still get someone like Buddy or Markkanen. We still need more shooting it doesn’t matter where it comes from.
Posted on 8/6/21 at 3:13 pm to LSUJD_04
Graham gets paid 12 a year. You're saying Hart is worth virtually the same contract as Graham.
Posted on 8/6/21 at 3:22 pm to SLafourche07
If we got Buddy, I actually think it should be NAW and Buddy starting and let Graham light it up with second unit. He could still finish games though along side NAW, maybe even a 3 guard lineup with Ingram and Zion against smaller teams.

markkanens body does not like the rigors of full court basketball.
you cannot count on him.
buddy's the better choice.
FWIW re markkenen: it's amazing to me that anyone can play starter minutes for the 82 games.
