So we are pulling for Portland tonight, correct? A Portland win knocks Denver out, right??

It does if Pels/Spurs/Thunder win too. I think.

MIN has to win too. but you are correct

That being said, SAS and OKC aren't finishing with 46 wins. They both play a bottom dweller, so they will have 47 wins minimum.

yes, you have to put them both at 47 minimum, neither are losing tonite. so after their games, there will be 2 spots left for three teams (DEN/MIN/NOP)

if DEN loses they are out, MIN can still push NOP out at 46. if DEN & MIN both lose tonite, pels are in regardless

If the Pels lose both games, they are the ones that are out, if Denver wins 1.

depends on MIN
DEN loss & MIN win, DEN is out
DEN loss & MIN loss, pels are in at 46

MIN plays MEM so you gotta figure that as a win

So basically if we win tonight we clinch at least a playoff spot right?
and DEN and MIN loss means we are in regardless right?

Any chance we can clinch a 6th seed or above tonight?

I would rather Portland win tonight and ensure us a playoff spot. I don't even want to chance missing out on a spot altogether.

No because UTA does not play tonight. I believe we come out on bottom in a SAS, OKC, UTA, NOP tie.

So even if SAS and OKC lose to MIA and SAC tonight as does MIN and DEN to MEM and POR while the Pels win at LAC, then Pels could still get 7th with a loss to SAS, win by OKC, and losses by UTA to GSW and POR.

ETA - Scratch that, we would clinch 6th in this scenario as we beat out the Spurs in the tiebreaker.

can clinch 6th, if:

Spot #6
Case 1
Pelicans beats the Clippers, and
Trail Blazers beats the Nuggets, and
Thunder loses to the Heat, and
Spurs loses to the Kings, and
Timberwolves loses to the Grizzlies

Case 2
Pelicans beats the Clippers, and
Trail Blazers beats the Nuggets, and
Jazz beats the Warriors (4/10), and
Thunder loses to the Heat, and
Timberwolves loses to the Grizzlies

How did Memphis not trade Tyreke? Was there no deal with a 2nd and expiring out there?

yes UTA/GSW is tomorrow, will correct

who knows on evans...its a shame for him both as an expiring and not being able to go to a playoff team this year. i guess they try to sign him and make him their designated scorer as they break in their rookie

i always liked tyreke from day one, even with his warts

yes i guess that is correct b/c if they both lose and we lose, we remain 1 game ahead of them and they play each other, so we'd finish ahead of the loser in their head to head Wednesday.
But Minny isn't losing to Memphis, so it's a moot point.

Minny will finish with at least 46 wins.
OKC and SAS will finish with at least 47 wins.
They play bottom dwellers and there is no way they would lose those games b/c the other teams don't even want to win them.

Denver can finish with 45 to 47 wins.
Pels can finish with 46-48 wins.
Jazz can finish with 47-49 wins.
Blazers can finish with 48-50 wins.
Those team are all playing teams fighting to win, except maybe the Pels if Lou and DJ don't play, and hopefully that's not up to Doc.

Obviously everyone can't max out b/c teams play each other.

Actually we can clinch the 6th seed tonight if we win, OKC loses, DEN loses, and MIN loses (doesn’t matter if SAS loses because at that point we would have a 2-game lead on MIN & DEN and a 1-game lead on OKC & we have the OKC tiebreaker)

EDIT: cgrand’s got it

My dream scenario is

3. Portland either 49-33 or 50-32
4. Pels 48-34
5. OKC 48-34
6-8. Spurs, Utah, T-wolves 47-35 (I don't know all their TBs)

All this takes is Utah losing out to GSW and Portland, and OKC and us winning out.

I think this is the best first round opponent for us and we get home court (plus I live in OKC and selfishly want to see some live Pels playoff action).
