Right, Portland would then have a record of 8-8 versus their division rivals, while New Orleans would have a 9-7 record and win the tiebreaker.

series is tied 2-2 between POR and NOP
POR at 48-32 can lose their last 2 games against division opponents (MIN & DEN) and end up at 48-34. Giving them a division record 8-8. (not farfetched)
AND
NOP at 46-34 must win their last 2 games to get to 48-34, the wins include SAS which pushes our division record to 9-7
In the above scenario, Utah would be 3rd, Pels would be 4th, Portland would be 5th. Unless a 3-way tie between NOP, POR, & OKC changes that, but I THINK the Pels would be at the top since they would have the tiebreaker over POR and OKC and POR has the tiebreaker over OKC
Pelicans can no longer be in the 3rd seed due to the Jazz win against the Lakers. The Jazz needed to go 1-2 with their only win over Portland.

yes, it is more likely that the pels can get to 4 if DEN beats POR, however it is also more likely that the pels miss the playoffs if that happens
go POR
go POR

BTW...if both DEN & MIN lose tonite, the pels are in at 46
MIN -15 vs MEM
DEN -2 vs POR
both those games will be over before the pels/clips ends

Yeah i think i'd prefer Portland beat Denver, but it shouldn't matter b/c we should take care of our own business by beating the Clips and then we don't care what Minny or Denver do.
Beat the clips, then hope you get matched up with Portland in the first round.

If Utah wins out and PDX loses out, we actually live in a world where PDX doesn’t win the division.

Tonight's Game's Implications:
If NOP wins, they lock up a playoff spot. A loss puts them at risk of missing the playoffs.
If OKC wins, they lock up a playoff spot. A loss puts them at risk of missing the playoffs.
If SAS wins, they lock up a playoff spot. A loss puts them at risk of missing the playoffs.
If MIN wins & DEN loses, they lock up a playoff spot. A loss puts them at risk of missing the playoffs.
If DEN wins, they keep their playoff hopes alive, they put POR at risk of dropping to the 5th seed, and keeps NOP alive for the 4th seed.
If POR wins, they knock out DEN, put NOP, OKC, SAS, & MIN into the playoffs, and ensure themselves the 3rd or 4th seed.

Just been busy with work and at home. Bought a new house in October, so I've been doing a lot of projects to make it our house. I've also kind of avoided much discussion here because of Crewz' shite-posting and all of the new posters who are emotionally unsound during every dry spell.

How so? i do'nt think a team can lock up a playoff spot with 46 wins, unless they hold every tie breaker imaginable against every other team that could finish with 46 wins.

Thanks, I feel like a landscape architect and contractor with all the work I've been doing, but the house I really only have one major project left and I think I'm going to contract out my own plans.

This also assumes Minny still holds all tie breakers against 46 win teams, b/c they can win tonite, and Denver lose, then Denver beat them in the finale and they would both have 46 wins, be 2-2 against each other, and have the same divisional record, But Minny has the better conference record. So they win out if it's just a tie breaker with Denver at 46 wins.
Don't know what happens if there are other teams with them at 46 but Minny has a strong conference record, so they may be in with a win and Denver loss.
It's highly unlikely any of the Pels/SAS/OKC finish with just 46 wins. The Pels have the best chance at that though.

Ok lets make sure I did this right.
If MIN wins tonight, they are at 46-35. If DEN loses they are at 45-36. So even if DEN then beats MIN, DEN will have the same record (46-36) and the same division record (9-7). Which it then goes to conference record which MIN has over DEN. Therefore MIN would be in the playoffs.
So yea if MIN wins and DEN loses tonight, MIN locks up a playoff spot regardless of what happens in their final game against DEN
MIN is ahead of NOP & OKC if they end up with the same records, but does not finish ahead of SAS if they have the same records.
DEN can vault NOP and OKC if they end up with the same record. We don't know about their tiebreakers between MIN and SAS yet.

So we are pulling for Portland tonight, correct? A Portland win knocks Denver out, right??
Posted on 4/9/18 at 11:28 am to Green Cup
its a catch-22. if POR wins, we are ensured a playoff spot. and still have a chance at the 5th seed and facing POR.
if POR loses we have a chance at the 4th seed and a greater chance of playing POR in the first round. but that leaves room for us missing out on the playoffs (but only if we lose tonight)

It does if Pels/Spurs/Thunder win too. I think.
There's too many 2+ way tie breakers that can happen at 46 wins, and i don't konw the specifics on all those different tie breaker scenarios.
I know we don't win those tie breakers with Minny/Denver, but we do with SAS/OKC.
That being said, SAS and OKC aren't finishing with 46 wins. They both play a bottom dweller, so they will have 47 wins minimum.
We basically decide if we want to be in the conversation for the 4/5/6 seed, or the 7/8/9 seed with our game tonight. Every other team in the hunt benefits from us losing tonight b/c of tie breakers.

This is the craziest playoff race I can remember. Geaux Portland and Pels.
