SAS are 0-7 on the road in their last 7 games.
Take care of the Suns like you should and take one from GSW/SAS.
Preferably against GSW, but I don’t want to play Pop with his back against a wall in the final game

Crazy just 4 games left and we could wind up anywhere between 4th and 10th. Jazz have a tough remaining schedule if GS doesn't roll over.

when we beat them, at home, 3 years ago, in the last game to make the playoffs, we knocked them down from the 5 seed to the 6, and they had won 9 in a row before we beat them.
I'm not scared.

Tonight:
Minnesota vs Denver
LAC vs Utah
We'll make up some ground on two teams tonight, then we have to win tomorrow.

What are we rooting for tonight? Do we want to the two teams ahead of us to lose to try and move up the standings, or would we rather the two behind us to lose to give us some breathing room?

Tonight you root for:
Rockets (So Blazers keep playing hard)
Jazz (So Blazers keep playing hard, not so much because you care/worry about Clips)
Denver (Because the goal should be 5 or 6 seed, not backing into 8th)

Things are still too tight, and not just for the Pels. One or more teams stumbling down the stretch combined with Denver or the Clippers finishing strong will change who's in and out. We want the Nuggets and Clippers to both lose.
I don't like overreacting to a small sample size, but that losing skid was bad and has me rooting for backing into 8th. Remember that 7th seed offer you made, people should have taken it. And I don't really see us backing into 8th as much as being relegated to 8th by losing a multiteam tiebreaker that otherwise would have had them finishing higher.

pels are gonna be either 7, 8 or out, based on tiebreakers. i think is more likely than not that at least 5 thru 9/10 all have the same record

How they finish will change their conference record, but in a multiteam tie like you're talking about conference record would be the tiebreaker and as of today the Pels lose to everyone.
Conference record
Jazz 31-17
TWolves 31-17
Spurs 27-22
Thunder 26-24
Nuggets 25-23
Clippers 24-24
Pels 23-25
I haven't cross checked the schedules but say it's possible for that group to all finish with 46 wins, the Pels would miss the playoffs even though they would technically be tied for 4th. If Commissioner Silver ever needed an excuse to reshape the playoffs in preparation for LeBron going West and making the East irrelevant, that would be all the impetus he needs.

With Damion Lillard injuring that ankle, that 3rd seed may be within reach for Utah now. Also helps the chances of the teams below (except Hou) that were looking at their game with Portland as a real potential loss
Portland remaining schedule:
Rockets
Spurs
Nuggets
Jazz

It is going to be tight. Someone is going to be on the outside looking in with a 46-36 record. Hopefully we can take car of business downt he stretch (3-1) and get to 47 wins.
HOU
GSW
POR (49-33) - beat DEN, lose to HOU, SAS, UTA
UTA (48-34) - go 3-1 vs LAL, LAC, POR, GSW
NOP (47-35) - beat LAC, PHX, SAS, lose GSW
DEN (46-36) - beats MIN 2x, Loses to POR
MIN (46-36) - loses to DEN 2x, beats MEM, LAL
SAS (46-36) - loses to POR, NOP, beats SAC
OKC (46-36) - beat MEM, lose to HOU, MIA

yeah the tie breaker is not on our side with our terrible western conference record.
I think Utah will be the 4 seed. I'd like to get to the 6 seed b/c i don't want to play Utah.
I think Denver will pass up Minny, and they and the Clips will miss the playoffs, and they will get the 8 seed.
That leaves Pels, Spurs, OKC fighting for 5, 6 and 7. We fortunately hold the tie breaker against both of them, although we would need to beat the Spurs to keep that tie breaker.
OKC has 3 games left, Rockets/Miami/Memphis. Going to be hard to get 2 wins out of that.
Spurs have Portland, Kings, Pels. hopefully they only get 1 win.
You can assume we win Friday and are tied with those two teams at 45-34 with GSW, Clips, Spurs left. Not easy, but hoping GSW is resting guys.
I think the Clips will be eliminated by the time we play them. They are already 2 games back, and they will lose to Utah tonight. Then that leaves the Spurs, who i think we will beat no matter what.
Problem is we have a good shot at getting to the 5 seed, but that is not a good spot for us at all playing Utah. Would much much much rather play Portland.
In the two games Gobert played, we got our arse kicked. In the two games he didn't play, we split, and that was with Cousins and shooting 50% from 3 in the win. The other game was Mitchell's 40 point breakout game in which they kicked our arse.

Or Silver could take a page out of Sterns book and rig the draft to give us a top 3 pick as a gift for actually trying

Conference record is not the tiebreaker for a multi-team tie. It is the winning percentage in all games among the tied teams. Pels lose out on that big time.

Crazy the jazz and Twolves are +20 in western conference and are still on cusp of missing playoffs if they falter down the stretch. How the hell do they have a losing record against east opponents
Edit: nvm read that as 37-17 conference record not 31-17

We really need MIN to fall back. Our 0-4 record against them kills us in any tiebreaker scenario.
The best tiebreaker scenario for us is to end up in a 3-way tie with OKC and SAS.
Even if we lose to SAS and end up with the same record, we would still end up on top of that 3 way tie with a 4-3 record (SAS 4-4 and OKC 3-4).
If you add in Denver to the tie, then it would go DEN (7-4), NOP (6-4), SAS (5-7) and OKC (4-7) if the Pels beat SAS and DEN (7-4), SAS (6-6), NOP (5-5), and OKC (4-7) if the Pels lose to SAS.
