This board is infatuated with obtaining Rudy Gay and to a lesser extent Andre Iguodola.
They have both been in the Top 5-7 range for SFs the past few years. They are long, are decent defenders, and can score the ball (Gay morseo than Iggy).
The Hornets are obviously lacking there and have been for awhile now.
Gay is 25 years old and Iggy is 28. Sure, they make big money. But they are still young and are one of the best at their positions. They would fit well with this team.

But Gay is being shipped because he can't get along with Randolph. It has to be, since his contract is clearly not horrible.

While Randolph is generally regarded as a huge a-hole, I think SFP might be off with that one.

Gay being shopped seems more about the Grizz being able to get farther in the playoffs when he was injured than him being on a bad contract.
It's like the Ariza/Aminu situation. If you can get similar production for a fraction of the cost, then the high priced guy has to go.
Gay isn't getting them over the hump, thus the price they are paying him isn't worth the end results. Not saying he can't do it for another team, it's just that core is not getting to the championship.

Not sure if serious...
I'm pretty sure he's being shipped out so that they can retain OJ Mayo and Darrell Arthur while staying out of the luxury tax.

Okafor is the only true center on our roster.
Okafor is barely bigger than David West. Okafor is an undersized 5 w/ a very limited offensive game and poor hands.
Defending a rebounding was not an issue at all this past yr. We did just fine w/ the people we had. 2 yrs ago journeyman Aaron Gray was superior to Okafor in every aspect while making less than a 3rd of the $. There are 5s available that are as good as Okafor.

but Okafor is the only proven bulk 5 on our roster, which is something you need if even just to defend and rebound the post.

well they're talented players who may be available. it's not like we can just force a deal for russ westbrook like it's nba2k12
we can only acquire guys who are available. these guys are/were available

Okafor measured practically the same as Dwight Howard. He's not undersized, he just plays small.
Player | Barefoot | Shoes | Wingspan | Standing-Reach
Emeka Okafor | 6'8.75 | 6'10 | 7'4 | 9'2.5
Dwight Howard | 6'9 | 6'10.25 | 7'4.5 | 9'3.5

This. Most of the talk came before the new owner, though. He may not care as much about the luxury tax.

Thats also Howard at 18 and Okafor at 21. I would be curious how tall Howard is now.

Presumably the best asset in a package we'd trade for Gay would be the #10 pick, Toronto and Golden State are both interested in Gay and have the 7 and 8 picks and even Charlotte has shown interest in Gay and moving the 2nd pick.
Sure, they have better assets, but we don't know how serious either team is. This isn't like we're trading for Howard where a bunch of teams are going after him. Few of the great teams out there need a SF (especially great teams with cap room to handle his contract), he fills our biggest need, and can be had without tearing apart our roster. I really think Jack, Ariza, 10 for Gay and #25 could get done if we wanted to (I'm still not sure what kind of salary matching would need to be done in this situation, I'd rather keep JJ if possible).
And I say watch out for GS if they pull off 7 + Wright + filler for Gay. Curry + Thompson/Rush + Gay + Lee + Bogut is pretty legit.

True, but I don't think I've ever yelled "why can't you be taller Okafor" at the TV, it's usually more like "Why the hell didn't you just dunk it?!"

I always seen him listed at 6-11.

I totally agree. It's just to feel better about being the target of a salary dump.

If you have to ask, you already know the answer.

No, but he destroys your ability to change your roster after acquiring him. Seriously, think about paying $19M for a guy who was the 3rd or 4th best player on his team last year.

I think we do. SF is the biggest hole on both teams and both MKG and Barnes are expected to be off the board by the time they pick. Gay/Iggy do much more for both teams than their picks would.
Golden State's problem is they can't make any big moves without sending out Biedrins or Jefferson. Although I heard one rumor that they'd be willing to move David Lee to get a star wing.
I think Toronto would be far enough under the cap to absorb Gay for just the draft pick or only send filler out.

Part of why Rudy is on the block is to get cap space to keep Mayo so I'm not sure why they'd want Jack, and since they already have Allen as a lock down wing defender and are losing Gay, they'd probably want someone with better offense than Ariza. Your trade viewed those 2 as assets but I'm not sure Memphis would agree.
