So you think one game of +/- for comparison purposes is silly, but a couple of games (again when everyone is playing great) isn’t? C’mon.

Both the Dyson/Herb lineups and CJ/Herb lineups have played an equal number of minutes through this season through several games. Dyson lineup has a plus 42 and CJ minus 12. These are minutes calculated through the whole season.

There’s enough depth that if fully healthy you’ll have a lot of games like tonight, where nobody played big minutes. So maybe the Big 3 average 30-32 instead of 34-36 MPG.

The minutes distribution will change. The depth chart is more or less the same. Dyson has probably passed Jose, and Hawkins has staked a claim to minutes, but everything else is the same.

I don’t know, but Herb and Dyson in the starting lineup has given teams problems.

Why assume minutes strictly come from the same position? As much as I don't like it, we have shown we are willing to play Zion with no center.

As for most similar role, Dyson would be the one with the most minutes to lose. He goes back to the bench and gets less minutes than Hawkins. Naji will likely lose some minutes. The bigs will lose some. We'll see what they do with Jose as he gets healthier and back in shape.

Edit:
But this very thing is the reason I have said this might be CJs last year or 2 with us. When it's time to lose salary, his position is most crowded with younger players.

I’ll throw another stat since you love them so much. In 42 minutes of play if you switch Dyson for CJ. The team is a -12

Zion and BI weren’t playing like madmen to start the season either, their improved play and in Bi’s case improved shot selection is a big reason for the improvement of the team.

Again, assuming we’re ever fully healthy, Ryan will get more DNPs than games where he plays. There are only so many minutes and there is no argument to be made that he’s a rotation player if we are fully healthy.

Sorry I’m not giving a guy shooting 47.1% on 3’s, more DNP’s than games played.

You are when you have CJ and Trey and Hawk ahead of him. Not to mention BI seems to be finally drinking the 3 pointer kool aid.

Love Jose and Naji but at this point they should be behind Dyson and Hawkins. Matt Ryan might get minutes over them depending on how we’re shooting. Trey Dyson and Hawk should be the first 3 guys off the bench when healthy

It’s nice to have to figure that out.

I’m excited about the return of CJ
and Trey. They’ll figure it out.

Dyson is certainly coming among as you said but the goal is win now and CJ is just much better right now, so you can't cut his minutes.

I didn’t say to cut CJ’s minutes. If you want to win then Dyson is part of the equation. As you get healthy you add more people who need the ball, more who can’t defend, more who can’t rebound.

Guys like naji and Jose are DNP/10 mpg when needed kinda guys on successful teams. Let’s start there. Then start honing the guys who going carry you where you need to go. Find your 8. It may mean a trade needs to happen

This is true. It’ll be interesting to see how they look when CJ is back in.

You’re absolutely right. Let’s replace a guy with 10 years of sustained high quality NBA play, because of two fricking games where everyone on the court played great. Are you really basing doing something like this off of two games of +/- totals?? Seriously? Why can’t we just enjoy playing some really great basketball the last few games without losing our minds and overreacting like a 10 year old.

It's wild how prisoner of the moment some folks are.

CJ was quite literally the best player on this team when he went down. Yes, he was better than both BI and Zion, and it wasn't every close.

He's the 3rd best player on this team. Dyson is a looooooong ways away from being better than CJ. If you want to maximize how good this team can be this season, you play and max CJ's minutes. If you want to be a young team that is growing and doesn't care about going as far as you can, you play Dyson over CJ.

CJ is a liability on defense. In a league with dominant guards, CJ can’t defend them.
Again, if you watched last season and into this season, CJ is not a liability. He's obviously no Dyson, but he's a perfectly average defensive player and hasn't been this huge Dame or Morant like liability like you're asserting.

Someone has to explain how CJ is a liability, Val has to go because of his defense and so on and so forth, and yet we were the 6th best defense in the league last season with those 2 dudes 1st and 3rd in total minutes last season.

I don’t think anyone is saying Dyson is at all better than CJ. CJ has been amazing this season. But there is a question whether his fit is maximizing him and the other guys on this team when he plays in a lineup with Herb/BI/Zion/JV.

Is he really? Going into last night he was averaging 4.8 threes per game. He shot 5 last night, it just seemed like more because he made all 5. He’s never taken less than 3 in any game. He’s clearly made a conscious attempt (I’m
sure at Borrego’s insistence) to shoot more 3’s from the start of the season. But in several games, our rash of injuries has limited the number of catch and shoot threes he’s been able to take because the spacing hasn’t been there.

Agreed

If you want Dyson to keep going 25mpg, those minutes will come from Naji and Jose, not CJ.

If we're really being honest there's 4 dudes that won't get many minutes unless its a blowout/early foul trouble/ bad play

JRE
Ryan
Jose
Naji

Jose has been an incredible player for us, but Dysons start to the season is light years better than any Jose stretch I can remember.

Then you factor in CJ commanding at least 30+ mpg because he's been so good to start the season, and dudes that are good aren't going to play a lot.

That is what a contending roster should look like. You're supposed to have 3-4 dudes that never play that can do one thing really well, and the pels do.
