Something stuck in my mind with what Jordy Hultberg said pryer to the start of the season. Tom Benson wants to win and wants to win now. Monty is on a short leash this year. It is basically win or go home for him.

Which is why Monty is being questioned right now, but we're the ones that are irrational.

It's the NBA, lesser talent beat better talent all the time.

There's certainly some issues with this team that need to be resolved (3rd quarters, losing all energy when other team goes on a run, defensive breakdowns). That doesn't mean that the reason these things are happening is because Monty is bad coach.

The team definitely needs to mature and find a leader on the court who can stabilize them when things go bad, but it's still only 4 games into the season. They will win some games they shouldn't and lose some games they shouldn't, but I'm not going to jump to any conclusion about this team and Monty after a handful of games, I've seen too many teams turn it around midseason for that.

I'd bet a good bit of money this team will have an impressive winning streak at some point of the season, I just hope we aren't in too deep of a hole when that happens.

All of this. Great post

Turnovers have to be a huge concern.

the one game we won we played the Bobcats, and Davis had a career game against scrub bigs.

...it's concerning...as others have said, can't drop these games if you want to make the playoffs -- and that is definitely the goal for this team

Going into the season almost every article that I read on the Pelicans mentioned that this was a weird mix of players and that "fit" would likely be a problem. Now most want to get rid of the coach after 4 games. Maybe you should look at the GM whose moves look even more questionable than Monty's 4 games into the season.

We have talent and we don't need time to learn to play together.

My biggest excuse with Monty was always that his teams were rebuilding or injured or not where they needed to be for him to succeed. What this squad is showing in the first half of games is not luck. What the opposing teams are doing in the second halves is not luck. He has a team fully capable of winning all of these first four games.

From The Pelican Blog:
Postgame report: From the Pelicans locker room
Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams:
"For whatever reason, I don’t think it has anything to do with the other team. I think it’s just us learning how to play together, learning how to do something with guys you never played with before.(Oh, but Phoenix's group is much more tenured ) But to me, that’s a bit of an excuse. It’s still basketball. You’re playing to win. We played to win in the first quarter. We didn’t have a great second quarter, but I still thought we played hard in the third quarter. To a degree, in the fourth quarter, we were just playing desperation basketball. The second half was just totally not the way we play in practice. We’re just having a bit of a time with carry-over from practice.(Please stop explaining to us how poorly your practice is transitioning to games and how little you are adjusting in those games. This is where the Les Miles comparison is coming from, IMO. "Let me explain to you in layman's terms exactly what bad coaching is." It just seems eerily similar. )"

Phoenix is in rebuilding mode. They lost 10 players and brought in 5 that are in their rookie or second season... You're telling me they're gelling enough to be 3-1 with their only loss being a close one to the Thunder AND coming back (coached by a first year head coach, no less!) from being stomped early on in an away game against a talented team?

In previous seasons I have been all for Monty, because he really never under-performed IMO with the situations he'd been given with this team. It's quite clear that this squad is (finally) lightning in a bottle, and Monty Williams seems to be capping that energy by not making proper adjustments. It's one of those things where we gave him benefit of the doubt, but now that it is more apparent, looking back it seems the writing may have been on the wall.

I still think the Fire Monty stuff, up until now, has been laughable really. We were trying to establish some sort of consistency within this organization's direction. Monty DID NOT have anything that was really permanent from the onset and his coaching career prior to NO has been under quite the company of coaching legends. Dude deserved a CHANCE. I do agree, though, that chance seems to be running out of time. Under Monty, I just don't know if I can see anything but a squad that could run itself achieving the level of success that this franchise has potential for. What I mean is, his coaching (or lack thereof) will handicap our team should they even BE ABLE to coalesce under his management.

I still hate you, but this is a legitimate point. I think we need to give it some time to see, but there is a reason why such big moves were not universally lauded.

Anyone who has seen a minute of our offense this year can see that it lacks direction and identity.

There's no creativity, it's either our guys make an exceptional play to score, or we just don't score. There are no easy baskets in this "system" because there's basically no ball movement.

That and the rotations are vexing to say the least; it really does look like we are playing without a coach at times.

Defensive intensity is supposed to be Monty's calling card, but we are getting torched by literally everyone. I like the guy, it's not personal, but he just isn't the guy for this young team at a critical time in development.

My impressions are not good so far but I'll wait until the AS break. That said, I'm not so sure George Karl is the answer.

I, for one, am enjoying the hell out of it all. Monty is a pompous jackass in person and killed arguably my favorite player to watch in a Hornets uni. On a personal level, this is awesome that the fanbase finally turned on him.
