Just from watching a few highlights, he seems small and thin without a great outside shot.

He's explosive as hell, very physically put together. Really exciting player that can get to the rim. Kind of young Westbrook-ish in that regard

But shouldn’t we want our guards to be good shooters if we still have Zion on the team? Maybe I’m discounting athleticism a bit but I watched Kon Kneupel without Flagg play his arse off. I’m convinced he’d be worth a pick if we end up picking 5th or 6th. 2nd or 3rd would be Harper and Bailey. 4th I assume Edgecombe is likely.

yes, but at this point I do not think we should factor Zion into our decision. That should have been done the past 6 years by Griffin and really wasn't.

Now he is too unreliable and too murky of a future with us to care.

Get the best player

You should be drafting the best player regardless. Drafting for need is what got you Hawkins… who couldn’t shoot this year

of course, but that doesn't mean you go draft a guy with that in mind.
You draft someone you hope can still be a positive asset after 4 years, regardless of their position.

Cooper Flagg plays the same position as Zion. You want to pass on him b/c we have Zion? and no i'm not saying that's what you are saying. Just pointing out that you draft the best player regardless of their position or the position you think you need.

and in regards to VJ, he's not thin. He's 6'5" 180 with broad shoulders. He's 19 years old so it's not crazy to think he'll get bigger. One of his weaknesses you see a lot of draft profile talk about is he relies too much on being more physical and needs to learn when to be physical and when to have more finesse.

I think his biggest weakness is his wingspan. it's 6'5", so he's kind of small/short for a 6'5" guy. You take a guy like Donovan Mitchell who's 6'3", but has a 6'10" wingspan, and realize the shorter guy is actually the bigger guy.

His length will prevent him from playing 3 effectively. His swing skill is going to be his handles. If he can get his handles varied and tight enough to dribble drive consistently, he is going to be star. That's the only thing keeping his athleticism bottled up when he's on the floor.

If he was 6'8, he's probably a lock for 3.

he doesn't even need to be 6'8". If he was still 6'5" but with a 6'10"+ wingspan he'd easily go 2 or 3.

If we don't draft top (3) then I'd rather take:

Kasparas Jakucionis
Kon Knueppel
Derik Queen

Then
VJ/ Tre Johnson/ etccc

I don't necessarily dislike VJ. I just prefer the production from the other guys.

This is a draft I'd seriously consider trading next years 1st + CJ/ Jose for a player and #10-#15 pick. Or end up with another pick #20-#30

I’m curious what he actually measures in at, because I don’t think he’s 6’5 like he’s listed. I agree with OP that he’s a bit too small to be a guy that you draft off of his size/athleticism.

I agree with two out of three.

Queen has talent but I don’t know if we are the right org to get a lazy player motivated. We already have one of those.

Brooklyn has 4 firsts, I believe.

They may want to turn firsts into either specific prospects or vets.

Yeah I’m worried about his ball handling. Not sure if he can fit this team when we are desperate for ball handlers.

If they trade Zion, I would love for them to go after Queen.

Davion Mitchell has impressed me alot since he got to Miami. Would love to take a flyer on him this summer.

John Collins will probably opt out this summer to seek a longer contract. I wouldn't mind going after him in a sign and trade with Utah as well. He would fit very nicely with Missi.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan. He’s apparently closer to 6’3 with a 6’5 wingspan. He’s an electric athlete but if you’re gonna be that size you have to have on ball ability and that’s a huge question mark with him. Otherwise you have an undersized, off ball shooting guard with a questionable shot and that’s just not a valuable skill set.

He’s gotta really improve his handle and playmaking

Pros
- He's a good 6'4 I would say, perfect size for a combo guard/shooting guard
- Athleticism out the gym
- Energetic and above average rebounder (5.6 - 3rd on the team)
- Elite defensive instincts

Cons
- Good, but not great shooting stroke (34% from 3, 78% from FT)
- Forces some shots that he shouldn't be
- Needs to work on his ball handling (3.2 to 1.9 AST:TOV)

I think people's comparison of Rose, Westbrook, etc is a bit much. I think he's closer to Benedict Mathurin
