I havent watched much of Jahlil's game. So as in a general sense, as a young, former top-3 pick that hasn't lived up to expectation, Okafor's bread and butter should be trying to showcase his skills against the bottom-feeders of the league. Come in with the second unit against SAC, ATL, CHI, etc and tell him to go get his buckets. If things get out of hand, slow him down. But the kid is only 22 and has the skills and athleticism to improve.

I think he and Cheick will split/fight/share about 20 mpg

Has Okafor signing been reported by any media outlets besides here?

No, and MM hasn’t said it’s happening yet, but the way he’s discussing it sounds like the team is working on making it happen.

Got it! I’m not doubting his info. I just know things can be quite fluid before it becomes official.

yes a player can be taken into the qpon trade exception up until 9/1/18
I think the vet minimum is less than that though and like crewz said it’s likely not to be a fully gtd deal for this last spot or two

Hopefully it's a deal with a team option in the second year so if he unexpectedly shows out we'll have cheap talent for an additional year.

“Cheap talent for an additional year”

Ask Jahlil how he feels about that.

Is this a preemptive thread to avoid any melts from tards if we sign Okafor today? ARE we signing him today

Is this for real?

I'm seeing a bunch of Chinese teams interested in Okafor. Nothing regarding the Pelicans

But there are other poor defensive bigs in the league. Other bigs who aren't elite stretch shooters. And they have contracts. They get playing time

Which guys are as bad as Okafor in all areas except scoring with the ball in his hands in or around the paint?

Even with his skills on offense, he still couldn't really get much run or a new contract in BK, a team all about developing young guys.

If the Pels are taking a flyer on a guy, go for a wing or a ball handler to try to find their own Bazemore rather than taking a 5th big who cant defend, rebound, shoot from range, or pass

Maybe Pels are taking flyer on one of TWilliams, KWilliams and Green?

He’s not accepting a cheap arse deal with a team option for year 2.

He’s not an idiot.

Just a few seasons removed from being a rookie and averaging 17 a game.

And he’s currently an UFA, who hasn’t sniffed a deal with an NBA team this offseason.

He’d literally have to have one foot out of the league to take a 2 year minimum like Ajinca and Babbitt got. Now if all we’re hearing are deals in China he might have one foot out. But sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before accepting your situation.

certainly he already has shite deals on the table from a team or two, he can wait till training camp or even after to take one. I’m not going to say the pels should sign him but if they did it would be intriguing to see if he can contribute

I would rather they troll for as many 6-8 wings as they can and hope but signing okafor doesn’t keep them from still doing that. I would guess that there will be at least one bargain player that makes the roster

There's a reason that philly ran him out of town, and there's also a reason why he's still a free agent with zero offers. If he refuses anything but a large contract, then he won't be playing in the NBA this season. The only Jahlil rumors I've really heard have all been related to him being in China

ETA: The reason his value has tanked isn't because of his offense, it's because of his defensive effort. Surely you've seen this remarkable clip LINK

okafor has a notoriously bad motor
I’m not sure how that translates to instant offense off the bench

Can someone explain to me all the hype over acquiring another 6'5" shooting guard who will not be able to guard 6'8" and up small forwards? We have Moore. Why in the world do we want another shooting guard to play small forward, just to be outsized in his matchup on a nightly bases. SOMEONE, please explain.

Everyone says we need a legit SMALL FORWARD, this board turns to a overpaid 6'5" shooting guard. Then says, HEY GUUYS THIS BAZEMORE GUY WOULD BE A PERFECT FIR AT OUR SMALL FORWARD POSITION. Can you guys hook me up with your plug?
