Because he’s wasn’t a high recruit or a sexy name. If you wanted a serge Ibaka or Myles Turner type of player, he’s it.

Maxey is your classic guard who underperforms at UK and flourishes in the NBA

Yes, he is. Jalen Smith the perfect stretch 5 off the bench for us.

I like him a lot, I have Vassell ahead of him but have considered moving Maxey because of his upside.

He is a highly turnover prone and lack basketball IQ on the offensive end and doesn't have the best defensive laterals

I’m still not drafting Smith 13 that’s a reach for a need and not BPA

You cannot possibly know that as the draft boards are nowhere near set especially when players are set all over the board on most sites. Modern athletic big men like Smith never stays on the board after the lottery. The kid has legit NBA 3 point range to go along with his defense, rim protection, rim running, finishing ability, and rebounding. He’s going in the lottery.

I would actually trade the pick to move into next year's loaded draft with multiple 1st rounders.

Tired of trading picks...we did that for all of Demps years the build is now.

I think he will develop into a solid shooter in the league. He finishes well, has a good midrange game, and shot 83% from the line.

Some of it was shot selection and forcing bad shots. I don’t think he will ever be JJ from deep, but he shows all the signs of being a good shooter. His shot is really technically sound as well, so you don’t have to completely rework it similar to Lonzo.

Didn't the Lakers wind up in the top 4 with the 13th best odds?
I think they had the 11th best odds.

Wasserman mocked Smith to us today.

quote:

13. New Orleans Pelicans: Jalen Smith (Maryland, PF/C, Sophomore)

Smith made a significant impression this year with his improved body and shooting, and scouts are talking as if he won't make it outside the lottery. New Orleans would use him to stretch the floor and bang inside, but teams also believe there is more to his offensive game than he was able to showcase at Maryland.

Killian Hayes is a good name to watch. Draft Twitter loves his game and he's a creator that we need. I've read a couple of places that NBA Intel suggests teams aren't as high on him as Draft Twitter is and he could be available ~10. Wouldn't mind trading up to snag him in that scenario.

I could see this FO falling in love with Poku, or if they move up, Deni Avdija.

Chances are they are going to pick at least one foreign player in every draft somewhere along the way.

Shamit is correct that we should just take the best player we can and not worry about fit, because if a guy is talented but doesn't fit, we can trade him later.

The only teams that should draft for fit are championship-level teams that have only minor needs. We are still in the "accumulating assets" phase of the game, so I really don't care about how he fits in with the rest of our squad.
