We had no business being in this game, much less even winning it. No BI, no Zion, no Herb. 3 starters out, on National TV and coming off a loss. Admittedly, I thought we were about to be embarrassed, or at a minimum, get humbled by the Mavs. I thought for sure, we would hold our own until half, and then slowly watch it get out of control...like so many years before...

But not last night. Not on Coach Willie Green's watch. Guys, this team is the epitome of heart and soul. A true team. We are so deep, young, athletic, long, aggressive, assertive, fast, aware, gritty, and tough.

The makeup of the role guys are perfect. Guys like Nance and Alvarado are vital. The energy and selflessness they exhibit are a perfect compliment for our Big 3. You could literally see Murphy come into his own last night. His stroke has no hesitation, and is pure. He is going to be huge for us. If you can continue to get Naji and Graham to play within themselves, not get out of control, they are a huge spark off the bench.

The development of our young guys is beyond encouraging, it's the best in the NBA right now. It sure looks like Dyson Daniels is progressing just like Herb, Murphy, Alvarado did last year. Major kudos to our development staff.

Then we have JV and Zion who own the paint, and can bang with anybody. I love that we can play big or small, and still put up points in bunches. CJ has the ability to create his own shot or get others involved whenever he wants. He is so heady. Even when his shot isn't falling like last night, you can see how he affects the game in so many ways. His defense was stellar, his playmaking was still on point. I feel like I am dreaming, but I think for the first time since we have had a team, we are the real deal.

And lastly, Coach Willie Green is absolutely perfect for this team and this group of guys. I would sign him to a lifetime contract. He corrects all the wrongs from previous coaching hires. I thought his in game adjustments and his line ups were what we needed last night. If we continue to play like this, he will win Coach of the Year. Book it.

Last night was huge. Absolutely huge. It told you something. When you can win without 3 of your starters, 2 of which are All Stars, and one who is going to be All Defensive 1st Team, you've got something special.

The league knows we have arrived. It's time we own it and walk with our chest out.

That Graham 30' 3pt attempt with like 10+ seconds left on the shot clock up 5 with a minute to go was complete and total bullshite. Green should have lit him up for that. Almost cost them the game.

Also, this team relies on way to much isolation bball at end of games. Little to no movement or back screens to help get guys open. It cost them in the Utah game in the last 2 min of regulation and end of OT. Almost cost them last night. That needs to be fixed to win those seeding games that make the difference between a 2 seed and a 5 seed in a crowded conference.

Also, WTF were they doing ignoring Murphy the last 2-3 minutes of the game? He should have been fed the ball until he missed. Most of the time he was just standing on the wing watching an iso play.

As somebody already said a while back...Daniels will be our 2nd best defender, from the moment he first steps on the court.

And maybe my favorite moment from the game last night was when, with about 6 minutes left, Willie came roaring on the court...to help CJ up off his back...after drawing an offensive foul on a pick play. Willie was fired up...I kinda like that guy...a bunch.

Looking at our schedule, I'd like to see where we are after 9 games before deciding if we've put the league on notice.

This might tick you off a bit, but I think Dyson is a better defender than Herb. Of course he would need to prove it over the course of a season, but from what I see Day 1 Dyson is clearly better than Day 1 Herb defensively.

Herb Jones leaves his feet too early to bite on pump fakes at times (his recovery speed is nice though). He especially did this a lot early in the season last year.

Dyson is incredibly fundamentally sound defensively at age 19. It’s unbelievable.

Not super important, but I think that was Jarron Collins.

No problem here. Daniels may eventually be a better defender than Herb. If so, Pels will be in pretty good shape defensively with 2 players on the All-Defensive team every year. At least 2nd team...if not 1st. I just wanna see Daniels be ready by playoff time...Herb will need the help, considering how weak we are overall, on defense.

6:25 left in 4th quarter. Give it a look if you can. I'm stickin' with my story.

And FWIW: This is my favorite site to review any play I might want to "resee" (player #1) ... LINK

I've been saying this and absolutely agree.

Herb's advantage is his length, extension, and superior athleticism. Herb is going to block more shots, and his long arms result in lots of deflections.

But Dyson's footwork is incredible. In a one-on-one situation, Dyson is going to be better at staying in front of his man.

Yes, Dyson is going to be better than Herb.

Herb needs to get himself invited to the Holiday summer training camp and try to learn everything Jrue can teach him. Herb's biggest problem is all the touch fouls. Jrue's biggest strength is he knows how to take the right angles to be physical but not get the whistle.

Glad I’m not the only one that sees it. They are both great. Glad to have both.

And I think you are right, Herb has more athleticism which gives him the ability to gamble, recover and also make splashier steals and blocks.

Dyson is long and athletic in his own right, but early on it just seems like he does not make mistakes or get baited by shot fakes. Dude just stays home and is a pain in the arse.

I’m looking forward to defensive lineups at the end of a game/game sealing possession that involve Herb and Dyson.

And we also have Jose, Naji, Nance, and Trey that can be elite switchable components to a defensive stop lineup. (Maybe you shouldn’t switch Jose, but he’s great in his own right.)

Ingram also has length and shows a pulse on defense sometimes. Maybe Zion will once he gets more fully acclimated and doesn’t have to think instead of react. CJ has been locked in on defense. Hayes randomly plays like an animal on defense sometimes. Jonas can end possessions with his rebounding.

For the first time in awhile as a fan of this franchise, I think we can get a defensive stop or two if we need them.

10 weeks later Sam Vecenie, wrote an entire article about this very observation that basically everyone minus GOP and Dinky completely blew off.

The vision was impeccable. Should we award a trophy or sumn? Ha, Dyson is absolutely superior to Herb but Herb is a fricking Demi God so there’s that.

Good job buddy!

Glancing back through the thread, I do not see anyone that argued with you.
