TBH, head coach position is not close to my primary concern at this point. Let’s get a competent,no, excellent, management team in place. Right?

I asked a few people around the league about who they think is the next Pelicans GM. One name keeps coming up - Trajan Langdon. The Pelicans really like the recent G-League EOY and it seems he's popular league wide as well.

The argument for Becky Hammom has positives.

1. It's a McVay type hire. She's <7 years removed from playing and this is the right situation for it. Jrue is a perfect leader for first female head coach considering his personal story. Popovich raves about her. Paying her dues is bullshite. Alvin Gentry paid his dues. If she can coach, we shouldn't give a frick if she doesn't have a dick.

2. The NBA in New Orleans has always had star power and as much as we love Jrue, he's not gonna endear us nationally. Breaking that barrier would keep the Pels in the headlines.

Also, NBA players are progressive. Get over it, it wouldn't be a bad move. You're not sexist for thinking it might be, but it's got its merits.

It would be a pretty stupid hire.

fletch on the radio today

1) new hire will report directly to gayle benson
2) no oversight by loomis or anyone else
3) pels are working closely with the NBA office on candidates and best practices
4) ferry and langdon most commonly discussed as leading candidates
5) ferry is not much of a gentry fan
6) GM will have final say on both the davis trade and the coaching decision
7) he's still pushing hammon as a coaching candidate, says its strictly his opinion and not sourced info

take it for what its worth

If true, I wonder if they are competing against each other or if both could fill roles (i.e. Ferry as POBO)? Based on #1 above, it sounds like they are competing against each other.

Sources: Memphis Grizzlies assistant Jerry Stackhouse is in contract negotiations to become the next head coach at Vanderbilt. Emerged as a primary candidate in the last 24 hours. Nothing final yet, but the two sides are headed towards a marriage.
I believe some have mentioned liking Stackhouse to replace Gentry

League sources say Tommy Sheppard, now acting GM of the Wizards as they open a search for Grunfeld's replacement, is also a candidate for the New Orleans GM job alongside Golden State's Larry Harris, Brooklyn's Trajan Langdon, Houston's Gersson Rosas and the Pelicans' Danny Ferry

I mean maybe Sheppard is good, but why would we want anyone from Washington?

Even if Washington has great infrastructure and owner support, what GM wants to work with a roster that includes an injured John Wall on a Super Max gumming up the works?

Yeah that is going to be a haaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrdddddd sell.

On the flipside. Grunfeld has been there for like 15-16 years and done squat.

So you know you are getting a long leash and patient ownership.

Yeah nothing Washington has done in the post Paul Pierce John Wall era has really impressed me.

I'm all for a wide net but I would like it to be cast in the good parts of the pond.

Washington and Phoenix have to be two of the bigger dumpster fires out there looking for a GM.

We’re no prize in general but we aren’t capped to hell and back, we own some of Washington’s picks, and we don’t have a micromanaging owner.

I could see Hinkie being interested possibly despite really poor ownership.

Challenge. Big market area towards the Northeast. Would likely be given an extremely long leash.

Taking the wrong one of these jobs would be a career ender.

Billy King was no prize but following Prokorov’s order to build an immediate winner in Brooklyn mortgaged the franchise for years and made King the butt of everyone’s GM jokes for a decade.

Taking a similar job with the Knicks is a kiss of death because Dolan is such a micromanaging piece of shite.
