Might be a discussion for next year, however, I can't see Coach Green altering his pattern. Coach may bring Zion off the bench for the first one or two games he's back to get him acclimated but you can expect CJ, BI, Herb, Zion, and Val to start once the play-in/play-off starts.

Won't sleep on CJ either, dude is an elite off-guard. He has played great this year and led the team with Zion and BI out. TM3 gets a lot of praise, rightfully so, for his shooting but CJ is every bit the shooter TM3 is and has been doing it for a long time.

I like it. He can play his style and give us the offensive boost we need off the bench.

Does CJ allow it? Will willie have the balls to make that kind of move

No and no. In the long run, I'm probably trading cj.

I think that next season is CJ's last with the team. In fact, he might get traded next year at the deadline.

The tax is going to mean that we are either going to have to trade CJ, or let our young talent of Herb, Jose, and Trey go -- and we aren't doing the second of those options.

If he's traded before the deadline next season, that means we had another shitty letdown of a season.

If we're winning, he won't be traded before next offseason

If you asked me a few weeks ago I would've said send Herb to the bench because he couldn't hit his open shots & the offense was 4 on 5 most possessions. Now that Herb has improved from outside CJ is the logical person to go to the bench.

he should just let CJ start, play the first few minutes and then sub out and then pretty much give him second unit minutes until the fourth where he’d finish. This way he wouldn’t need to catch flack for not starting CJ

CJ coming off the bench sounds like a great idea.

First things first, CJ off the bench is a stupid arse idea.

I get why you're thinking it, but's it's stupid. WIth the dynamics of how the nba works, this will never happen.

I do'nt think he'll be traded, but i have always assumed that we have CJ until someone else comes along to take his place. We were hoping for Dyson to do that. CJ will start here until he's no longer with the team. We have him for 3 more years of guaranteed money.
I think Trey is ready to take someone's starting position, but it'll be Herb, not CJ.

The only way CJ is getting traded is if he starts to fall off significantly, or if Dyson becomes too good to be relegated to bench minutes and it is clear that we are a better team with Dyson taking CJ's minutes.

Right...How many winning teams in the league today currently bring their 3rd best player off the bench?

First things first, CJ is not the 3rd best player on the team. He is the least effecient. Trey is your 3rd best player. CJ exploits all his energy on offense and never have energy for defense, constantly hanging on to offensive players arms to keep up. I know you love CJ but again, find him a seat beside GT.

Trey Murphy 3pt%
40.7 on 6.2 attempts

CJ 3pt%
39% on 7.3 attempts

Where is your stat that proves he is the least efficient?

The bottom line is if he is not moved to the second unit, he doesn't need to handle the ball. When BI initiates the offense, the ball moves, it only sticks when the guy with the funny haircut tries to play hero ball. Watch the game when CJ is in and when he is out. I bet you haven't paid attention to Willie taking some of the decision making out of CJ's hands.

You guys let me know when a 31 year old guy still in his prime making $30+M who is shooting 40% from 3 and averaging 20+ a game like he has for his previous 7 years gets relegated to coming off the bench.

This notion that so many of you seem to have about CJ coming off the bench is silly.
IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, NOR SHOULD IT.

if you want to question whether we should trade him then that's a legit topic to discuss, but stop with this stupidity of him coming off the bench.

and he is the 3rd best player on this team, and if you don't think he is (which is stupid), then he should be traded for someone who could be the 3rd best player, not relegated to the fricking bench. Just b/c Trey has had a good month doesn't make him the 3rd best player on the team now.
CJ is going to have surgery on his thumb in the offseason, his shooting hand thumb, yet he's still out there every night and still gives us 20ppg on 40% shooting from 3.

When CJ is out, the team shoots worse, turns the ball over more, and the offense is worse.

All 3 of the above are not my opinions, they're facts.

What's the next excuse we're going to make?

CJ's best role is as a shooter playing off of Zion and Ingram. Moving him to the bench doesn't make sense because he fits with Zion and Ingram better than any other guard on the team, and he isn't anymore effective running point than our other options on the bench. Despite his musings, he isn't a Manu Ginobli type playmaker.

he also isn't just a 3 point shooter.
If he didn't have the ability to get his own shot, he wouldn't have made $200M in the NBA thus far.

and you don't pay a guy $30M to just play a shooting role.
