re: Pro football talk show spent almost 5 minutes trashing Saints uniforms

I think the black helmet would look cool with black jersey and pants
re: Does griff really think they can turn the season around? Why bring these players back?
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 12/24/24 at 7:44 pm to Islandboy777
no way he thinks they can turn this around. Last year to just get in the play in, it took 46 wins. For the pels to achieve this they would have to go 41-11 down the stretch, which would be a 64 win pace. Even if .500 was enough, they’d need to win at roughly a 57 win pace. Either way it exceeds even the wildest expectations you could have for this team.
If they suddenly morph back into the team they were last year and win at the same pace, they’d be 36-46, which would probably get us the 10th pick in the draft. It’s just mathematically impossible for this team to turn it around at this point
I still like a lot of the players on the roster but they should probably trade BI and CJ

33.8% of the time it works all the time
re: Why no timeout?
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 12/19/23 at 9:03 pm to yaboidarrell
Also, I don’t get why they held the ball for so long, they were acting like they were holding the ball for the last shot, but instead they initiated offense way to late
re: All this Jayden Daniels talk reminds me we should get Daniel Jones
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 12/8/23 at 9:37 am to MountainDewGF
I don’t understand how anyone can watch Daniel jones and want him to be the QB of their team. I also don’t understand why the giants paid him 40 million a year
re: Trade Possibilities?
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 12/3/23 at 3:36 pm to floyd13
I think Ingram should be traded, it’s really unfortunate because of how he seems to like it here, but the fit isn’t there.
I really wish Griffin were in on the Porzingis sweepstakes this past offseason, he would have been perfect, the Celtics didn’t give up a crazy amount to get him. Could you imagine a CJ, Hawkins, Murphy, porzingis, Zion lineup? Teams wouldn’t be able to pack the paint at all. I do think the pelicans need a stretch 5, Myles Turner, maybe?

re: BI isn’t clutch let’s be real

My issue isn’t with him making/missing those shots, it’s the lead up to the shot and not making the right basketball play. Why settle for a long mid range pull up
re: Cade York was put on waivers by the Giants
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 11/23/23 at 5:59 pm to LSUPilot07
I wouldn’t write off Cade York or even Grupe for that matter. They are both obviously very talented but just going through a rut (although I generally trust York more since I’ve watched him kick clutch kicks at LSU). Both of them can turn it around, just need to learn to deal with the pressure and get consistent
That being said, if you can’t trust them, then they shouldn’t be kicking in games for you. But as someone on the practice squad, why not have him to challenge Grupe

re: I’m season tournament

I’m glad they’re trying new things, seems harmless. I think the players will care about it though, the games do count against their record except for the championship (if I’m recalling correctly), but really in terms of winning it at all, I heard that each player would get 500k. That’s nothing to sneeze at even if you’re a star player. For some role players, that could be over a third of their salary so they’ll be extra motivated
re: I would be ok with the Saints never wearing black on black again

Not the biggest fan of black on black uniforms, but I do think the black alternate helmets would look best with the black on black uniforms

Something about being Derek Carr’s teammate drives wide receivers to drive way too fast
re: Why do the Saints Look like They Do
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 10/15/23 at 4:34 pm to 24chevrolet48
Definitely 1 and 2.
When you look at the successful coach hires in the last decade or so, it’s mostly successful up and coming offensive coordinators plucked from teams. (Although there is definitely a fair share of failures here too) 9/14 playoff teams last year had offensive minded head coaches
If you look at most of the defensive coordinators hired, their defense ends up being good but the team is mediocre due to lackluster offense, coach then blames it on the offense which buys you a year or two at least.
Of course, you could have a defensive minded head coach that is still successful, but they have to be great leaders and be able to instill a team culture. (Also, able to fill a staff) Dennis Allen doesn’t really fit this mold.
There’s a reason why you see a lot of defensive coordinators that are retreads from the head coach discard bin

I want to see the black helmet with black pants and jerseys
re: Can we just trash the Prevent?

It’s how they lost to the bucs on Monday night football last year when they were up 16-3 with 8 minutes left
re: We're not gonna talk about how good Zion looks?!

Need to see that side view
re: Shams says Pelicans are “aggressively pursuing” a top 2-3 pick for Scoot
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 6/12/23 at 6:47 pm to Soggymoss
I’m ok with giving up Zion or BI at this point, with this new CBA, teams have to be more selective with who’s their top 2 guys
re: In re lottery picks
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 4/21/23 at 1:55 pm to NOLATigerinBR504
We are in the lottery with the worst odds, 14th spot overall, 2.4% to get into top 4, 0.5% chance to get 1st overall. So we’re picking 14th
re: Those missed 2 free throws by Daniels against Lakers (Game 7)
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 4/8/23 at 10:03 am to tigerbait3488
It will only haunt us if we don’t make the playoffs, although it’d be nice to be tied for 6th right now. Although, it’s kinda silly to point the finger at Dyson Daniels when Zion has missed most of the season and BI missed nearly half of it. That’s what actually haunts us
re: Season Ticket Boycott
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 4/6/23 at 11:53 pm to WeComin504
I keep getting calls from the reps and last time I just flat out said that I wasn’t going to buy any ticket plans due to the lack of transparency about Zion injuries through the years. A season ticket is an investment and the Pelicans front office haven’t been good business partners.
re: Unpopular opinion: CJ should come off the bench once Zion is back
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 4/3/23 at 3:37 pm to yaboidarrell
he should just let CJ start, play the first few minutes and then sub out and then pretty much give him second unit minutes until the fourth where he’d finish. This way he wouldn’t need to catch flack for not starting CJ
re: Number of wins for this year’s team?
Posted by MartinVanNostrand on 3/20/23 at 3:08 pm to St Jean The Baptiste
My expectations based on actual reality: between 7 and 10 wins
My expectations based on my extremely optimistic view of Derek Carr that has little basis on reality: 13 wins
