well they knew he had a calf strain all series, and it's pretty standard for teams to ask for a top 4 protection on picks, even when it seems pointless.

But hey, Joe is “one of us!”. Those one of us hires who had success 20 years ago usually goes great.
Joe is so damned arrogant that he thinks he knows more than everyone else and only he can be right. I said it the moment he was mentioned as being hired that he would be a massive disaster and he moved quicker than I thought.

Then you weren't paying attention. He had a calf strain requiring an MRI which is a warning sign. Many here even predicted it could lead to an achilles tear. Why make a trade 8 days before the draft unless you are getting duped by the team with the injured player. That trade would have been there after the finals for sure. Incompetence and ignorance, at best.

What should they do if Queen is all-rookie 1st team and the pick ends up out of the lottery?
.

Laugh at how incredibly, incredibly lucky Dumars and the Pels got. For the brain dead (which clearly includes you), how Queen does in the future doesn’t change that Dumars and the Pelicans gave up WAY, WAY, WAY MORE than they needed to offer to move up from 23 to 13.

There goes my last shred of hope. I can’t believe it has gotten worse than Griffin. I would legit beg for griff back at this point.

Griff was almost as bad. The one guy I really liked that drafted, DD, he undervalued and got bent over on when traded. I think he legit lost every single trade he made.

TBH, it doesn’t even sound like Joe is running the team. Shamit’s article basically says Weaver is making all the decisions. Which begs the question what does Joe actually do?

Queen was Weaver’s guy, weaver made the call first to Atlanta. Weaver is the guy gathering anyone from the DMV area. Weaver traded for Poole and Bey who he had connections to at Detroit and Washington.

Is Joe going to make any decisions for himself or is he gonna sit around and let Weaver cuck him? All of this is making Joe look like a little bitch.

He definitely got duped and several people on here said it could happen. Why trade the pick before the draft?

You wait till draft night and they probably still make the trade but give up even more. Can’t wait to bump the threads from the posters that think they still going to be a playoff team.

Griff made stupid trades but at least understood value.

BS, he blew almost every trade, made the wrong move almost every time. I pointed out every move that he screwed up at the time over the years. Then used our treasure chest to correct his f’ed up moves.

The GM blame is deflecting from the real problem. Gayle is the head of the snake that needs to be cut off. Who is making these atrocious hires?

Yet I’d still take him 100/100 over Dumars and Weaver.

From now until Dumars is inevitably fired will be the darkest period as a Pels fan. It’s only going to get worse from here.

The season didn’t even start yet and you’re saying this lol. Besides trading an unprotected pick and not firing Willie Green, I’m happy where we are heading.

Joe Dumars is straight forward. Listen to his players and take it head on. Traded CJ for a good piece in Poole and Bey. Drafted BPA and not a need. Added a veteran leader in Looney. Let’s wait and see how this season unfolds before we make judgement.

Also if there’s something to knock Weaver for, it’s not for his drafting.

Dumars should be fired immediately. There's no sense to wait until next year to see how it plays out while allowing him to make other decisions that will cripple this team's future.

There’s no point in firing him now. The same people who hired him would be evaluating and selecting the next guy.

The optimistic take on the trade to get Queen is that it was about sending a message to the players and to the whole organization that making the playoffs this season is essential.

It was a "Cortez burning the ships" kind of moment. A page has been turned and things are going to be different now. We aren't tanking, no matter what. We WILL win.

I certainly hope that works out, but Will Guillory has an article out that points out that this puts a lot of pressure on a young team, and that maybe some of that pressure isn't the best thing for the long-term growth of our young players.

LINK

We'll see. I generally don't have a problem with high expectations being put on the team.

Some of y'all are so full of it and over dramatic darkest period I pels fan history come on.

Go look up the roster with Demps and his young vets. And now all of a sudden the pick next year is guaranteed to be a top 5 pick when last year we had historic injury problems tanked for over half a season and won 21 games and ended up with the 7th pick. I truly believe some like playing the draft lottery sim over watching the games.

Then why is there always revisionist history about the past game when someone new comes in? Griff was horrible dude had the #1 pick and a huge trade package just given to him to start off a rebuild and blew it.

Griff actually traded away a real top 5 pick that became an all star pg for Jaxson Hayes and NAW but now some of the very people who called Griff a snake oil salesman are drinking his kool aid.

I'm glad I don't care about the process this much to let it bother me like some here. I'm much more interested in roster construction and players in all of this. I have huge expectations for Fears and Queen and if they hit, that's all that will matter to me. Give me a decade of high level play and stability and I'll be a happy arse fan.

That is the most charitable take that I can possibly imagine. If the message was “playoffs or bust” then why would you be trading for a late-lottery rookie?

To put it another way, if you saw another perpetually struggling franchise making this move based on this rationale, then you would not give any credence to this “optimistic take” - you would rightly attribute it to incompetence.
