MDA weaponized harden and developed a system that virtually guarantees a high seed over 82 games. They might well run harden into the ground doing it but were it not for GSW they’d be telling an entirely different story. You wonder if morey is getting an itch to try again somewhere else, as the harden/Paul pairing is basically set for several more years

I’m mixed on D’Antoni at the moment.

I think what he certainly deserves credit for is pointing out the obvious no one else had, which is that Harden needed to be point guard. Which is what really unleashed Harden’s full abilities.

From there though most of the system is simply my turn/your turn with Harden and CP iso ball. Of course the larger question is simply, is Harden even coachable? As that seems to be a theme of coaches and insiders in and out of Houston, Harden says the right things but defaults to the same tendencies and bends the offense to his will. He has a lot of Westbrook in him.

It almost worked last season, but is it viable going forward with declining 34 year old Chris Paul?

and I do respect them for stepping forward to slay the dragon when it was just as reasonable to build another way and wait GSW out. trading for Paul (they gave up real assets that are even more valuable now) and signing him to that deal was an all in move

It may have been a bad all-in move in hindsight. The goal was a secondary ball handler to pair with Harden so he could rest and not have to do so much

Essentially swap CP3 out for:
Patrick Beverley - injury prone defensive guard
Montrezl Harrell - took time to develop
Lou Williams - 6th man

but now they would have financially been able to afford keeping Ariza. Combine that with Harden's emergence the last 2 years, I like their chances honestly.

Other players of similar caliber have recently been "had" for less

What about trade AD straight up for Harden??

I can’t stand Harden’s game, but you would have to do it from the Pels side.

Wait for what? Paul’s knees to regenerate? Their window is closed

They dont have time to wait.. CP3 is over the hill, Harden will fall off a cliff if he keeps having to carry them through the regular season...

Exactly. Harden is the same age as Klay and Draymond, one year younger than KD, and two years younger than Curry. Waiting is only hoping the Warriors break up. And who wants to be second? The Rockets are the Les Miles Tigers to the Warriors Alabama. What they've tried to do hasnt worked so it's time for something new.

Firing people isn’t going to help that either

you put Beverley Lou and Harrell back on the rox, with Gordon Capela and tucker, use the money saved to grab Otto porter or Harrison Barnes and they are in business. the chris Paul move was for last year and they should have beaten GSW

after that it’s all downhill with Paul

Beverly for sure helps, but does he help more than Paul has the last two years? Lou isn't an off ball player and he is allergic to defense. Playing him and Harden together is a problem. Harrell is a beast, but I'm not sure how much he's developing/helping if Capela is already there. Minutes get tight and those two aren't sharing the court in 2019.

What if the owner allowed them to go into the tax to keep Ariza?

The Paul move was the right one. The Paul resign was the right move too. They just came up short. Sometimes it happens and there's not much monday morning qbing to do. No one has pushed the Hamptons Warriors the way the Rockets have.

problem I have with harden/Paul is the my turn/your turn offense.
maybe harden/Gordon then Beverly/Williams would be harder to deflect especially considering GSWs perimeter bench being so thin

Yeah. It's tough because the offense works really, really, really well, even if it is a bit of a bore to watch. Not sure they are better by not letting Harden do his thing. They put up a 112 ORating v the Warriors.

That said, I do think you're spot on about it stagnating v the Warriors some. Not sure if not mixing it up more is personnel or belief/stubbornness.

To me, their problem this year was defense. They just didn't have the same effectiveness on that end

They should fire CP3. His fame is garbage and that contract is a killer.

Sources: In calls to front offices, Houston GM Daryl Morey is showing an aggressive desire to improve roster with all players and picks available in talks. Hard to imagine James Harden scenario, but the rest under contract - perhaps even Chris Paul - could be moved in right deal.

I am sure they would love to find a sucker to take on CP3's contract at his age. Will not be easy.

AD for Harden straight up. (I'm sure this doesn't work capwise.)

They can pair CP3 and AD.

We can pair Harden and Zion.

Would be interesting to hear Boom downplay Harden and start talking up AD.
