Today they let Irv Roland go. He is the Player development coach that has worked almost exclusively with Harden for the past few years. They are very very tight.

He has also worked with PJ Tucker and CP3.

They’ve also let go of Rogers (Assistant Coach), Vanya (special assistant), Cho (video coordinator) and Bzdelik (assistant coach - defense).

My point here is that a guy like Roland is really well respected and had done very good work there. Despite how any of us feel about Harden he’d be by all accounts a great get to work with say, Zion.

And something odd seems to be happening in Houston.

They are trying to force Mike D'Antoni out. Won't be surprised if Harden is moved either. Maybe they wanna do a rebuild?

It seems like it’s an over reaction to them not making the Finals again. When you look at Tillman’s postgame reaction to the series loss and now their recent moves, it seems they’re trying to shake up the organization to get over the Warrior hump.

Tilmann leveraged his arse off and has to service his debt. He is cutting costs like crazy.

That’s kind of the scuttlebutt I’ve been hearing.

I’m not going to pretend to know Roland but from what I’ve heard he’s a great player development guy.

That was my first thought, but they aren't even a tax team this year and the tax threshold his going up about $9 million next season.

Sounds like a bunch of opportunities for us to build up our front office.

The rub here is that Morey made moves to avoid the tax, likely at the owner’s insistence, and it potentially cost them a chance at the title.

I think a lot of the frustration between various people is realizing exactly how much that hurt things.

you could also read it as perhaps morey wasn’t 100% on board with an MDA extension and now he’s firing his assistants and staff

Tilman seems like a world class douche bag.

They dont have time to wait.. CP3 is over the hill, Harden will fall off a cliff if he keeps having to carry them through the regular season...

Them not being willing to go into the tax this last season screwed that team

The narrative going right now is Morey never wanted D’Antoni, still doesn’t.

The owner picked up his contract for next season.

Which obviously isn’t sitting well with D’Antoni.

So Morey is doing the next thing he can do, fire the assistants and bring in people he likes.

Watching this power struggle unfold it makes clear to me why Griffin was so selective with his next job. Morey has basically been hamstrung the last several seasons. First due to financial constraints and now with micromanaging. Griffin clearly had enough of that from Cleveland. Either way Houston should be some interesting drama this season. As apparently CP3 and Harden had a blow up after game 6 as well.

which is crazy when you think about it

MDA weaponized harden and developed a system that virtually guarantees a high seed over 82 games. They might well run harden into the ground doing it but were it not for GSW they’d be telling an entirely different story. You wonder if morey is getting an itch to try again somewhere else, as the harden/Paul pairing is basically set for several more years

I do believe that
and I do respect them for stepping forward to slay the dragon when it was just as reasonable to build another way and wait GSW out. trading for Paul (they gave up real assets that are even more valuable now) and signing him to that deal was an all in move
