Who trades for him and gives up any assets of significance?
$40m plus expiring contract for a player in their high 30s who demands that everything revolve around them.
Teams will take him but no one is giving up serious assets minus an extension and a lot of contenders don’t face that much in movable salaries available.

Lebron has never been traded (aside from forced sign/trades). He will never be traded and they don’t have to
let him play this season out and put the ball in his court. He has nothing to hold over the lakers anymore
They should assume he is gone after this year and plan accordingly. If he wants to sign another 1+1 obviously they’d be crazy not to do it, but otherwise they have a team to try to build

Only leverage I see him having is using Klutch’s representation of so many Lakers to threaten them if LeBron gets told to GTFO.

Why would the Pacers do that deal? Westbrook would take away minutes from their young guards. While this also keeps them from bottoming out and tanking for Wembayama.

Any team getting Westbrook would negotiate a buyout.
The Pacers are looking to grab what will probably become two high firsts in the deal while dumping Buddy’s contract and getting something for Turner, whose future is not with Indy.

Westbrook would take away minutes from their young guards.
repeat after me...”Russell Westbrook would not play a single minute for any team he is traded to”

According to @WindhorstESPN, Jeanie Buss is not willing to move first round picks unless it will turn the Lakers into a legitimate contender.
I haven't seen/heard the quote for proper context, but is there a trade that would make them feel like contenders besides Kyrie?

Im honestly aggravated that any team would help the Lakers out of hell but I can see why the Pacers would.

I guess we can assume she realizes the team at the moment is not a legitimate contender LOL

I. E. The trade is only for a star.
Someone like Beal, Lillard, etc. But you unfortunately don't have the ammunition for it.

They might have been able to if they didn’t trade for Westbrook. And certainly if they didn’t overpay for Davis.
Best they can do right now is to turn Westbrook into players that will make them at least middling and possibly get them into the playoffs.
They aren’t getting a big fish like Durant. Beal, Ayton, and others can’t be traded until January. Unless a Klutch client forced a trade to LA and only LA, their options are very limited.

How do they even define contenders? Even if they trade for Kyrie, what are they? The fifth most likely to win the championship?

Sadly, the Lakers don't need draft picks. Every mid market star seems to want to go there

woj reporting that the Celtics are talking Durant with the nets...brown/smart/white/picks. Nothing imminent
pretty obviously a nets leak

The Los Angeles Lakers are well-known to be open to moving Russell Westbrook in the right trade. The Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Utah Jazz are the most recent teams to have talked with the Lakers on a deal involving Westbrook.
Those three teams are all open to bringing on Westbrook, as long as Los Angeles attaches future first-round picks in any deal. Thus far, the Lakers have reportedly held off on including more than one first-round pick in any Westbrook trade.

Whole league knows how screwed that the Lakers are if Westbrook returns and Westbrook has severe negative value at this point.
No one is eating that contract unless they get assets or dump off shite contracts of their own.
You only need one idiot to move a guy like that but it seems like the only idiots who wanted Russ are at the Staples Center. Everyone else said no after his time in Houston and DC.

if the teams with space/bad contracts hold the line and it’s 2 1sts or get bent, I assume that means Irving or bust (which is basically what Jeannie Buss said the other day).
if the lakers offer Westbrook and 2 1sts for Irving I assume the nets would take that (plus sending out some salary to match). They’d then extend Irving (2 years?) and do a 1+1 with LeGM. Not that great for this years swap but pretty tasty for 24/25.

Argument has been made that Kyrie only goes if Durant gets traded.
No piece you are bringing back helps you as much as a healthy Kyrie, so selling low on him isn’t in Brooklyn’s interests if there is a chance Durant returns.

Why would the Celtics include him?
Durant’s market is diminished because of his age and injury history and, because of how things have worked out this offseason, there are few places which either would take him or could take him.
If the Celtics feel they have a good enough team without him and that no one else is seriously bidding, why give a Godfather offer?
