They probably do, at least now it won't be to the Lakers
plus, now that he's opted in, whoever trades for him will have his bird rights for an extension.
completely depends on the nets now, but they could set the entire NBA on fire:
-swap irving for westbrook + picks, waive westbrook.
-do a mega deal for durant
-retool with simmons & whatever the get back for durantplus a clean cap sheet

They aren’t going to do that.

if anything it makes it easier now.
They just need to find a taker for Westbrook, not that that's an easy thing to do.
If you were the Nets, would you not send Kyrie out to get back Gordon Hayward and a Charlotte 1st, or maybe PJ Washington or Oubre? Hayward has had some terrible injury luck, but when he plays, he's still a good scorer. They'd have some trouble defensively, but having a healthy Joe Harris and Gordon Hayward knock down 3's at 40%+, as well as Seth Curry, while you let KD run some pick and rolls with Simmons rim running would be a very efficient offense.
Charlotte should at least be entertaining it to try to get the Lakers 27 and 29 1sts to take on Westbrook, and then they just buy him out.

So just need to do what they've desperately been trying to do for months.

Does KD allow that?

If you had the cap space and a big salary filler like Charlotte does, would you not take 2 future Lakers 1sts?
They are essentially sending Gordon Hayward out for expirings and getting 2 1sts for it?
The Lakers are desperate. Make them pay.
I think it sounds crazy too, but hell i thought it was crazy and impossible last offseason when they said the Lakers wanted to get Westbrook, and they made that happen somehow.

The Lakers a year ago at least had KCP/Kuzma and Harrell to move to get Westbrook.

The Hornets would position themselves to have more than a max spot available in cap space next offseason by moving Hayward for Westbrook, and that's with resigning Bridges to a reasonable deal.
They know they aren't winning a championship this year. They should be building for the future. Get more picks from a situation that you would have never gotten any in the first place, b/c no one is giving them anything for Hayward. This is a perfect opportunity for them to prey on the Lakers desperation. I'd only do it if they gave me 2 future 1sts.
Keeping Hayward means they don't get off his salary until it's time to give LaMelo his max, so they won't have that cap space anymore b/c of his cap hold. Next offseason is when they need to add that max player when they only have Rozier and Bridges on big contracts with the rest being rookie contracts.

They aren't offering any 1sts with Westbrook. Its why they don't have any takers.

Theoretically could still happen but the odds slim considerably.
Westbrick’s salary matches. But know who else’s does? John Wall. And Houston owns so many Nets picks that they may be willing to send some back if they think they can get some assets out of dumping Wall and facilitating a Kyrie trade.

The expectation is if Houston can't find a trade for him soon that he'll get bought out by June 30th and be a UFA.

I’d make fun of Houston more for taking Wall if not for the fact that they bent over Brooklyn for Harden after Harden wanted out.
Being in that situation yet managing to get multiple firsts and swaps for him was insane.

No, I wouldn’t.
I would rather swap him for Westbrook and get the 2 Lakers 1sts you’re proposing

I have a suspicion that due to the talent in next years draft there might be some really good deals at the deadline.
I wouldn't be upset if the pels stood pat and see where they sit at the deadline and you could get a quality player for cheap. Teams will actually want to tank this upcoming year with the talent available.
SA is making it obvious early with that rumored Murray trade with ATL but a few more teams could do it in February.

John Wall is rumored to the Clippers

I wonder if Wall has anything left.

The NBA is a very weird place
How in the hell does buying out Wall at 40mil make any sense?

I don’t get it at all either.
