And I say this not just because the pels suck at them.

It's ruining the game. Boston shite 56 so far tonight. More 3s than 2s.

That's not basketball.

Move the line back three feet and get rid of the corner 3.

I would like to see the three limited to the last two minutes (or so) of each quarter. It would essentially require an ability to blend the playing styles that prevailed before and since the analytics driven revolution that resulted in the three being so prevalent. Maybe it could be tested in an in season tourney to see how it plays out.

Sure, then what? Have entire games of dudes just foul hunting and flopping all over the place

Yeah it really sucks when games are high scoring and entertaining. Why can’t we go back to 90s basketball where it was common to see games with around 160 total points?

Being 1.5 times worth more than a regular shot is the problem. Once basketball people realized this, the game was forever changed. I wish they would change it from 3 points to 2.5. But the decimal would get messy. But as it stands, the 3 point shot just carries way too much value.

If a team shoots 100 reg shots and hits 50% they score 100 points
If they shoot 100 3’s instead and hit 35% they score 105 points.

It’s just simple math. Shoot the 3!

They could always just play better defense, maybe actually give a shite about that. But that doesn't happen until the playoffs.

More entertaining for some. I see where the OP is coming from. For me, 50 three's a game is hard to watch. Yes, there is more scoring, but more scoring doesn't mean more entertaining for everyone. The Pop/Duncan/Parker Spurs teams played a beautiful game of basketball and were taking like 15 three's a game. It was just good basketball.

The Golden State teams first three championships they were shooting like 30 per game and everyone thought that was insane. Now the Celtics are averaging 20 more three's a game than the Golden State championship teams. Some people actually like to watch the ball move around and plays being ran.

I completely agree here. Aside from a buzzer beater, highlights happen in the paint.

Alternatively, the Pelicans could get in on this instead of being stuck in 2005

I see what your saying but there is one major factor missing. A shooting foul is mostly called on 2 point shot attempts. So 2 points are possible to be had even though no shot attempt was taken, with the exception of an And-1. In which it counts as a made shot attempt.

That is how you had guys like Allen Iverson & Kobe Bryant with low field goal percentages. But still valuable and scoring points. The foul on the two pointer. Also why LeBron James' percentages are so high. He plows his head down and gets all the way to the basket every time and has a good chance of getting a foul called.

I just find the momentum swings way too wild.

I guess some like that. But I fricking hate watching games now when the Pels are up 20 because I just know that it won't last. Conversely, I don't feel the same when they're down 20 - I feel like we're fricked.

There was something fun about watching your team blow out another team comfortably. Now every game is a nail biter in the sense that even if you're up big, you never relax.

I know I'm in the minority there, but I don't like the crazy momentum swings - my heart can't take it.

To me it’s just that the game has become almost a glorified horse contest of three pointers. Fast breaks are no longer about getting a layup or dunk, it’s about fanning out to the three point line for a 24 footer. I’m not saying it’s not the correct analytical play. Particularly as the refs have evolved into blowing the whistle if you breathe on a shooter, but let ridiculous contact go when guys drive (well most guys; not SGA, Luka, LeBron, etc.). It’s just something I don’t enjoy watching. The Pels had a 4 on 1 last night and ended up with a Hawkins corner three (which he missed). It’s just become way too perimeter oriented in my opinion. But I don’t see it changing either.

only thing that can be done is to allow more physical defense on the perimeter. Allow minor hand checking (maybe for one second counted off by the ref) & bring back the 5 second (Mark Jackson) rule.

They need to make the mid-court line a 4-pointer

Imagine how crazy (and actually exciting) it would make the games

I tend to agree, the game has gotten a bit stale with the threes. Back it out a little further, and the threes will be more exciting when they happen. Plus, you could see teams get back to playing a more natural version of basketball. When guys are opting for three pointers on a 3-on-1 break instead of taking it to the goal, the math has been skewed too far.
