quote:He has a friend in the NBA. Problem is, he reports his speculation as fact. He "reported" that the Pelicans offered Oubre 2/$20 million but were out bid by the Hornets. Oubre's agent subsequently listed the teams that made offers and the Pels were not one. So, I think he put together the knowledge that Griffin likes Oubre and the Hornets contract and "backed into" his declaration of the contract the Pels offered.
He knows people around the league. Just because he hears something doesn't mean its going to happen. NBA roster management is a fluid game that changes minute to minute. Woj is always right because he reports the news, Mac reports possibilities. There’s a reason he is one of the 400 people ESPN follows.

So I was listening to Shamit doing a radio interview today.
On the Buddy Hield for Josh Hart possibility, it can't be done through the Memphis trade as that one is completed.
But, to use any players from the Chicago trade to get Hield, the Pels would have to wait a couple of weeks to begin the trade due to league rules.
I saw elsewhere that a Hart, Satoransky, and Gabriel trade for Hield could just about salary match if Hart's salary were set right in the sign and trade.
I believe we have a couple of solid replacements playing in Vegas now for Hart's minutes. Hield could add something really special on the offensive end that we need.

Sacto will be looking to stay under the tax. So if you move Satoransky and Hart signs a deal for $10.5mil or less, then they will be about $900k under the tax. You can make that deal without including Gabriel, and the salaries work out.

quote:Not sure that works. I could be completely off, but I think this is how it works - Hart's BYC would be half of the $10.5 million, or $5.25 million. Coupled with Sato, who is at $10 million, that would be $15.25 going out. That is short of being within $5 million of Hield ($23 million). We would need another approximately $2.75 million to make it legal. So, looks like we would have to include Gabriel and find another almost $1 million. Therefore, Hart's starting salary would need to be in the $11.5 million range.

quote:Yeah, no way to use the TPE from the Memphis trade to get Hield. We have to wait 19 days to aggregate Sato with other players. I think that is around 8/27.

With Kawhi signed, Hart might be the top free agent still out there. Strange situation.

Can we at least give the man his flowers for his Walt Lemon Jr. scoop?

Friday is the last day for a team to pull a Qualifying Offer without the permission of the player.
Some notable restricted free agents with QO #
- Lauri Markkanen ($9M)
- Josh Hart ($5.2M)
- Hamidou Diallo ($2.1M)
- Jarred Vanderbilt ($2.1M)
I don't see why the Pels or Bulls would pull the QOs. It's either lose all rights to them OR keep the ability to sign them cheaply for one year or do a S&T to another team.

The only reason to pull the QO would be if we just didn't want him on the team.
If that happened, it would likely mean that there were locker-room issues that we didn't know about, because he's definitely worth $5.2 million.

Yeah, $5.2M for Hart would be a steal. I'm sure he'd be unhappy about it, though and just walk next year. Pulling the QO just accelerates that timeline.
Maybe there is a team that would be willing to pay him more than $5.2M, but thinks we would match any decent contract. Hart has been very likable in the past, so maybe this is just an opportunity to bust his arse on the QO in hopes of better offers next offseason.
