nah fletch has his agenda but he’s good people.
he has lobbied for Hammond pretty consistently because he knows how great of a story that would be, and an even better story if it works
I think it would be great to have that kind of positive PR to help with recruiting

I don’t think he was the only one!

Are you suggesting Weatherspoon didn't play basketball at a very high level?
In the NBA? The WNBA is entirely irrelevant.

Agree to disagree. She knows basketball. Probably better than anyone on this board. I don't think it matters what organization the basketball is being played for.

You clearly are trying your best to make it a female thing. There are others who have not played in the NBA who have become good coaches. However, they build their resumes in other ways, such as assistants or front office, etc. Having only been an asst for 1 season, her resume is a bit thin at this point to be considered a lock as a head coaching candidate.
Im just giving a different look at it. As I said, I dont want her as the hire.
But its BS to say that she doesnt have enough credentials to be a candidate. If it were a guy, being a head coach in college for 6 years and being an nba assistant coach would be enough for him to be a candidate.

Every assistant in the NBA knows basketball better than anyone on this board.
I will ask this question repeatedly:
Out of all of the people we COULD hire...do you believe she is the #1 best choice?
Yes or no?

Being a HC at a small conference school with a different gender and failing, and then being a full time assistant for 1 year would get a guy hired as an NBA HC?
respectfully, this is OBJECTIVELY false in my opinion.

Does 1 year of NBA experience as an assistant on a bad team make you a legitimate candidate? Because she wasn't an assistant the season before.

But one of the greatest players in NBA history got a job without coaching!
Totes the same thing!

Normally the answer would be no, but the NBA is different than other leagues when it comes to head coaches. You can become an NBA head coach with 0 or very little coaching experience, so the fact that Weatherspoon isn't experienced doesn't matter.
I'm not arguing for Weatherspoon, but guys with 0 experience (Nash) or have been an average college coach (Quin Snyder) can become head coaches in the NBA if the correct people like them enough. All this means that like it or not, Weatherspoon is a legitimate candidate for the job.
With that being said I'd like us to get Billups.

I was talking about coaching qualifications, not factoring in the gender. If you just looked at the resume, it has more qualifications on it than plenty of coaches that have been hired.

comparing former nba players who played the game for 15-20 years to a "teresa weatherspoon" type candidate?

If we are counting coaching experience (even just her one year in the NBA), she already has a longer resume than the following head coaches when they were hired
Most of those coaches were bad coaches. I’d rather someone with a decent amount of experience, especially if it’s a lead assistant position, not a player relations / culture position
And also, yes, I would 100% rather a male coach with little experience than a female coach with little experience. Male players would connect more as an inferior to a male than a female, it’s just how the world works

If you are a all time great former NBA player.
Guys get jobs 3 ways:
1) All time great NBA player
2) Work way up the assistant ranks over the course of several years
3) Highly successful college coach
That is pretty much it, and she is none of those things.
Let her be a lead assistant. If she proves herself in that role over the course of 3-4 years, then sure, lets do it.

Yes, when it comes to coaching our front office isn't going to see a big difference between playing experience in the NBA vs WNBA. I'm sorry if that bothers you but it's just how it is.
