Still fairly new here...so excuse my ignorance...but does the return of Zion mean

---the Pels might go a bit more uptempo next year or the opposite? I'm hoping for the former but it seemed to me that, Hart grabbing a rebound & taking off with it was about 90% of our fast breaks last year. Pretty obvious that Val, being our main rebounder, didn't exactly help initiate any kind of uptempo offense.

We may nit of been 8 secs or less but we weren't exactly slow

I hope they go back to leaking Zion out after a shot went up on defense like they did his rookie year. You'll need the right lineup to have enough rebounding, but it put so much pressure on the defense having to send guards back to pretend to defend him.

Griff said Willie wants to play with more tempo in a recent interview.

With take fouls basically being a technical I'm sure we will see more of that. Probably would be at its best once Dyson Daniels is up to speed because of his size for rebounding & his passing ability.

you think DD will see a lot of playing time this upcoming season?
Posted on 7/23/22 at 12:30 pm to PolishFan
I think that if dyson can show willie he can reliably defend and be counted on not to turn the ball over then he will play short but regular minutes. I’m pretty certain they expect that as well

IMO the 3 things that will dictate how much, or even if DD sees the court will be
1.) Can he avoid the Murphy problem and play within the team defensive scheme without errors?
2.) Can he avoid rookie fouls and turnovers
3.) How successful, how quickly, does his work with Vinson go?
If he struggles with 1 or 2, we might not see him much at all.
If he can do the first 2, I think he can see 10-15 mpg
If he can do all three, I think you can conceivably see him moving past guys like Marshall and Graham on the depth chart and being a pretty valuable utility player by season’s end.

and being a pretty valuable utility player by season’s end.

Correct. If he can become that, it bodes very well for us.

Yeah, we are a young team built to run, and the new take foul rule is going to make quality transition play even more valuable.

I don't know. If Zion isn't good from free throw, I probably take that foul, give him the free throw, and the ball on the basis that he'll miss it and I get to set my defense.

Zion is one of best players on transition plays in the NBA.
I'm agree with you, Pels must play up tempo often (normally).
But the team must play "low" tempo for JV also sometimes.

his ft % is known. look it up.
its not a question you can IF about.
your strategy gives up > .6 pts per ft. then you defend. looks like a bad idea.

New "take foul" rule will result in one free throw...BY ANYBODY ON THE FLOOR...similar to a technical foul. (And...on a side note...the FT penalty for "take foul" apparently will not apply in the final 2 minutes of 4th quarter...and the final 2 minutes of OT)

Willie likes to play up tempo, so I expect to see it.
All Jonas really has to do is have a great outlet pass.

with memphis jv got it to morant who then advanced the ball.
in the playoffs 2021
jv was shut down in first round by 1 seed utah and goebert and jv just flipped the ball like a hot potato without really controlling the shot. wasted possessions.
I felt that his utter defeat by goebert caused the trade to pels. his ceiling was known. just ok vs tier 1 playoff team. not good enough from 3.
and as pelisons noticed he's not the man for pnr vs cp3 but then maybe no big his size is.
good but not great.
pels got him pretty much for free thanks to street clothes and lakers pick 8th becoming Daniels not memphis at 11th this year. & tm3 at 17 last year certainly didn't hurt.

Yep, acquiring Val while still getting our guy at 17 (Trey) and the next year keeping our pick no one expected us to and grabbing DD. All while shedding that disgusting Steven Adams contract. That’s how you improve your team head and shoulders
