Shams just said it. What if Queen ends up becoming an all star? Then all this conversation will just fade away into nothing. And folks will be saying they know he was gonna be good the whole time. No way to say "this is a top 5 worst trade" 12 damn hours after its made. Lets see what happens.

It's just hilarious to me that Dumars started trying to make this trade at #9, and no one would take it until Atlanta at #13. If Toronto had taken the offer at #9, then SFP would tell you that we made a much better trade, even though we would have given up the same thing for the same player.
According to the logic of SFP, a Derik Queen taken at #9 has a much higher variance than a Derik Queen taken at #13. I've read a lot of stupid arguments here on TD, but this one is pretty high up there.

Simmons has been gratuitously mean-spirited toward the Pels over years. His hyperbole is not surprising.
It should have been a protected pick, so it is an unnecessarily risky move. But the Pels have traded all sorts of 1s, including one to acquire Steven Adams and one to get rid of him a year later.
They’re just trying to get the team competitive and moving.

So long ago it’s meaningless. The league is way different now

Hyping up Dumars for his accomplishments from over 2 decades ago is such a desperation move. Especially when everything after that was an absolute train wreck

You are wrong.
Anyone who would rather have Bill Simmons run their organization over Joe Dumars is an abject moron. I don't know how else to put it.

There’s not a person in the media or on this board who knows how this trade will work out for the Pelicans. In fact, nobody can really calculate the percentages one way or the other. It’s just bloviating at this point..

We don't know how Simmons would do. We know Dumars will be mediocre at best and calamitous at worst. He needs to prove he can build a team in the pace and space era
