Can’t mix TPE and a player to match money. Either you use the TPE or you use the player.
What we did do in the CJ deal, though, was as send CJ for Poole and then Olynyk into a TPE that Washington had, which should theoretically have given us a new $13m TPE.

Yeah you can’t mix. You have to do 2 different transactions.
Send the TPE to cover Robert Williams 9.9 million. Then in another transaction, send a player like Hawkins to cover the rest of the salary’

It doesn’t work like that…
The TPE has to cover the full salary of the player being taken back, you can’t trade a player in two transactions

The CJ/Poole trade isn’t official and doesn’t take place until July 6th. We took $6 million less in that deal, so it should be pretty easy to trade a Hawkins for Williams and tack it on to that deal. If that’s what they wanted to try to make happen.

Yeah, but then you start getting into tax concerns, using Spotrac numbers after the trade is official and after signing draft picks we only have 4-5 million in breathing room below the tax.
I don’t want us starting the season in the tax and then like every year have to scramble to trade away even more assets to avoid it.

They had a few they could have drafted but they blew that

So the difference would be $6mil + $4mil not including adding Jose/ Hawk/ Reeves. We could take back up to around $21mil and still add a few min contracts to stay below the tax. (I thought we were using the $10mil TPE on Bey because it expires soon and that would give us $12.3mil from Olynyk). Which if so would increase our incoming to $27mil while technically staying below the tax.
Right now I believe we can either use the full (14.5mil) NTMLE + (13mil)TPE and still have Jose/ Hawk to trade.
OR
Include Jose/ Hawk and get a guy (+20mil) + (vet min). We may actually have a little more than the vet min in scenario 2.

We can still add another $25mil-$30mil in players/ assets on this team.

There were some “vet” centers that were in this draft?

Oh I agree it makes it tight. We could simply go into the tax of course as we wouldn’t use the non tax payer MLE in this scenario anyway. Otherwise, You would certainly drop Elfrid, and probably have to trade Jose for seconds or as part of the deal. Not exactly my ideal scenario for our center hole.

Yep which means you have to decide something here.
1) Pay Herb soon
2) Trade Herb to Cleve for a very favorable contract and Starting C in Allen
Cleve would def take Herb.

There’s no question in my mind we’ve already discussed extension with Herb. And I don’t expect him to take it simply because we are limited in what we can offer now.
I have no idea if Cleveland would trade Allen for Herb, I tend to think they would too. As for our side, I would have to seriously seriously consider with that four year cost controlled contract. Allen is like a center sized Larry Nance that doesn’t get hurt as much. Would no doubt help us.
And all that said, I highly doubt Herb is traded and think we just sign a center in FA.

Allen is what we hope Missi can be, and to be fair maybe Missi gets there soon, but were kind of on a compete now timeline with that Queen trade.

I think you can trade the TPE for a player (different team) and that player + Hawkins can be traded for Robert Williams.

Steven adams is a free agent.

I think it’s the opposite. Herb shoujd have been traded for Allen last year and we’d still have DD. Allen would have been on last years time line.
If it goes to shite next year, Fears, Queen and Missi are the new timeline. And Zion will be gone.

And speaking of the no luck Pelicans. Dorian Finney Smith just opted out of his player option with the Lakers. Because of that, they will
Now have their full non tax payer MLE and my guess, very likely to now sign Brook Lopez.

There is still no difference between Herb/ Allen if we have to rebuild because they would both be getting traded anyway. So right now it would probably would make more sense to have Allen > Herb but Murray being out and coming off an injury really complicates that.
