Loophole in the sign and trade is that the first year is fully guaranteed, the second year is partially guaranteed, and the final year is nonguaranteed.

You still overpay for a player but you have options to ditch them after the first season.

It works, but THJ can't be traded before August 27th

Not an issue, that’s well before training camp

and S&Ts can't be shorter than three years.

Also not an issue, the S&T can only be for one guaranteed year like we did with Zeller, make the final two years non-guaranteed

So we trading BI for a mediocre big man and a negative contract now?

That’s pretty awful.

THJ is not a negative contract, Dallas just paid a couple 2nds to move him so they could get out of the 2nd apron to add other pieces. He’s also an expiring and a medium sized salary who can easily be flipped at the deadline if someone comes available you want.

Duren is pretty much same tier as Kessler, don’t see the issue there.

Also get Jovic who spaces the floor well and would be ideal as a backup 4.

I think it’s either make a move like this, or give him the extension he wants which will end up costing us Trey Murphy (which is the last thing we should do), or let him play out the year and probably lose him for nothing next offseason

Heat fans seem to be clamoring for a BI trade.

Grab Herro and send Herro to Detroit for THJ and Duren. Make the full trade look something like:
Heat: Ingram

Pels: Jovic, Mills (S&T for salary matching), THJ, Duren

Detroit: Herro

Pretty sure thats a legal trade, and something all three teams could claim they won
Why in the hell would we want THJ.?

Is he really? What does he do in an elite manner? He is not an elite rim protector. He appears to have a pretty low BBIQ and is foul prone. I think he has potential but I would not pay too much for that potential. I would easily take Kessler over Duren.

Literally the definition of a negative contract, paid assets to take you lol. If he was worth the contract, it’d be the opposite. Wasn’t he benched for the playoffs?

And I’d think Kessler would pull a good bit more than Duren in a trade.

Like I said, awful trade.

This new CBA is not like the old CBA, if teams need to move salary to a cap space team no matter what they will have to attach at least a couple 2nds, because there will be plenty of other teams willing to do it to avoid that 2nd apron. Hell Clippers chose to lose PG for nothing over being in the 2nd apron, and they were offered a VERY good trade from GS for him. That should tell you everything you need to know.

He’s a very good rebounder and runs the floor well and is far more athletic. If you paid attention to what Griff said last night that’s the type of guys we are looking for over the bigger lumbering guys like Kessler.

Griff is saying what he has to in order to make it sound like he has done his job. Is Theis this quick athletic guy? At the beginning of the offseason, he said he wanted rim protection. Duren is not that. THJ is useless. You tend to assume that whoever we get, we can easily trade later. Dallas paid to dump him. Not interested in him (although Griffin offered him a ton in free agency for some reason).

Because he’s an idiot, he offered more than what Dallas did, and offered Lowery and CP3 max deals the same offseason instead of targeting someone like Caruso who was available.

Some of yall put way more faith in Griff than you should. Or I should say use to. I think most of you see him for what he is now.

Looking ahead, luckily so far it looks like nobody that would want BI will have the cap space except maybe Houston, but even they would need to do a sign and trade.

Works out well for Pels to tell him no extension play out the season

Houston may be extending some of its guys which wouldn’t start until the season after.

Seeing this, you just can’t really pay him more than like 4/160 on a new contract. What’s he gonna do, leave to go to the Nets? Okay, bye.

Yep, said the exact same thing.

If he wants to go play on the tanking nets for a full max then he doesn't care about winning. In which case we're better off without him. Im not paying all that money to a guy that doesn't care about winning

I don't think we should offer over 4Y/130M (I wouldn't even offer that).

But if we offered 4Y/160M and the Nets offered the max, 4Y/208M. You think he should pick us?

A. I don’t think they’d offer that

B. I wouldn’t blame him if he chose them, but I also wouldn’t up my offer

Amen. I just couldn't blame the guy. I'm not giving up 40M+.
