If he signs a lower extension and plays well thats possible. On his current deal and if he he has a similar/worse year- Griff will let him walk. I think someone mentioned this, August 6th is key for us to sign BI and be able to trade him at deadline.

That's the debate though. At this point BI kind of determines how war chesty the war chest is. Is BI worth nothing and walks in a year, or can you get at least $30 million worth of rotation player and a few picks by the deadline?

Regardless of BI's value, at worst he can be a 36 million dollar expiring salary ballast to pair with 4 picks plus swaps if we really want to swing for a star (I don't think this is the route that we'll go). If we don't trade him and just let him expire, we have the same picks/swaps that we can include with CJ's expiring salary as a ballast next offseason. 4 picks/swaps plus expiring salary is roughly what's going to be traded for anyone who is actually going to be traded.

So that means the other half has extra picks or swaps. Half the league has a war chest.

We just have one swap and our own picks, except our second rounders. That’s not a war chest lol.

No, that's not at all what that means. One does not equal the other.

BI to Warriors

Wiggins/Kuminga to Cavs

Allen/Moody/Niang to Pels

Warriors could then dump GPII and get under the tax.
We are under the tax and so are Cavs.
Cavs starting lineup would be Garland/Mitchell/Wiggins/Kuminga/Mobley

I think that type of trade accomplishes what every team is wanting.

The problem with Kuminga and Moody is that like BI, they are heading towards new deals. Their values are muted, even though restricted.

And Wiggins' deal is borderline toxic.

The Cavs have three max players now in Garland, Mitchell and Mobley moving forward. I like the basketball fit of Kuminga, but I just don't see any world they could take on Wiggins deal, nor extend Kuminga on what he is sure to want.

This is of course the same issue they are running into with the Jazz to some degree, who want Pods more than Kuminga simply due to contract as much as anything. Though I would assume Kuminga would hold more value to a team like the Jazz that don't already have contracts on the books.

Hawks are about to swoop in and steal Markkanen. They have no reason to tank (don't have their 1st round pick). They have the assets to get it done..

Then let's help them get it done by tossing in assets for Kessler.

What assets do they have to get it done that are better than those that other interested teams have?

I didn't see whatever report he saw, but we are 2 weeks out from Lauri being extension eligible which seems about the right time to start posturing for the last round of final offers.

Lakers 2025 1st
Kings 2025 1st (w/ lottery protection)
Okongwu
Daniels
Bufkin

That way trumps the Warriors and Spurs offers.

Very good point. Who does the rumor benefit most? That's the likeliest source.

Cannot aggregate Daniels in a trade. Lottery protected 2025 1st not a huge asset nor is Bufkin. Lakers 1st is in the eye of the beholder. Spurs can trump that with the Hawks unprotected 1sts as well as their own.

You are right. Remove him.

It's a mid 1st rounder and a recent lottery pick. I would think those two have some value.

Lottery pick.

I don't know. Hawks aren't tanking. I think the Spurs are going to try and be good. The other teams' picks they have are not going to convey this summer (Chicago and Charlotte). I'd rather the Lakers and Kings picks, as more attractive.

Now if the Spurs offer more picks, that changes the argument. But I heard they were building a package around Keldon Johnson. I don't know if the Jazz would want him.

What do you think a Spurs package would be?

So you think the Lakers will be a lottery pick and the Hawks will be better? How much you laying on that?

Can't bet in GA. It sucks. I've been trying to check my Caesars account since I got back from Vegas. I think I have to go to TN to access it.

But yes, I think the Lakers have a huge fall this season..

I don't see it, but even if they do I cannot see then being worse than the Hawks. That's why the play the games though, so we'll see.

Whichever teams gets Markkanen will get better. So if the Hawks get him, they should be middle of the pack at worst.

IMO, the Lakers are an injury away from the bottom 10. Davis and James had great health last season. I expect them both to miss significant time this season. Then there is all the additional dysfunction.. I wish we would have held on to that pick over ours..
