So, he moved down the hall but had to change planes in Salt Lake first.

Russ is an honorary son because he likely hates Lebum just as much as us. And now he works in their building for the other team, not an enemy I would like to have

Just curious...how much will Jazz pay Westbrook on his way out the door. I saw they still owe him $13.2M for the rest of the year at the time of his buyout. Assume they will pay him a negotiated figure that is less than that...and Clippers will apparently pay him $785K for the rest of the year.

Wasn't sure the final numbers would be made public and I'd just like to have some ballpark idea on how this usually works...$$-wise...for the Jazz, in this type situation.

I don't think buyout details are ever really released to the public.

Thanks...I'll quit jumping around trying to find it announced somewhere, exactly what the figure is.

IIRC, a normal buyout tends to be about 60-80% of remaining money given that the player can take a minimum contract with the team of their choice without having that money offsetting the cap hit to their old team.

Clippers becoming the place where washed guards stop by to collect a small bag before leaving the league lol

John Wall, Eric Gordon, Eric Bledsoe, Reggie Jackson, Rajon Rondo.

Yeah, the players usually don't take much of a loss on these deals. There's roughly 27% of the season left. Russ on a minimum deal is $2.9 million prorated down to about $780k. So if Russ is making $780k with the Clippers, the Jazz are probably saving less than a million by letting him leave. But hey, if you can make your governor $780k by dumping something you weren't going to use anyway, why not do it?

The deal with Russ isn’t saving $800k for this season, it is part and parcel with dumping long term money for Conley too.

Conley has about $10m more in guaranteed money for next year and his contract would go up if he were kept. Taking Russ and doing the buyout saves you money while also letting you tank by getting the young players more minutes.

Right. But I was talking specifically about the savings from the buyout part since how
much was the buyout was the question.

I don't get why Westbrook would take a buyout. There isn't much left of the season. Just play for the Jazz. If they send you home, just collect the check. They would probably end up cutting him before the year was over. He could have waited until the playoffs were under way and signed with someone else then. That way he'd know the best team to join..

He's from the Los Angeles area, went to college there, and lives there now, so he probably wants to stay there going forward. What better way to do that than be useful to the Clippers this year?

You don't get why he'd play for a team he doesn't want to play for instead of playing for a team he does want to play for?

He signed with the Clippers, that makes it very obvious that just signing with the best team was not his top priority.

He has pride. He wants to win a ring and shove it up LeBron’s arse.

Edit - In addition, to be eligible for the playoffs he has to be on the roster by a certain date which is coming up soon.

Not sure what's not to get?

A lot of players that have made their generational wealth would rather take less to play for something than to take a little bit more money to play for nothing.

It's honestly a sign of a healthy league that's employees care about the spirit of the game and not exclusively the paycheck.

What a shame. We could’ve used his elite shooting.

Yeah, I don't understand taking less money. If he gave up a million dollars or more, that just doesn't make any sense to me. It's less than 25 games, a couple of months. You can't play a couple months in Utah (half of which will be on the road anyway)?

How is him going back to LA better for the spirit of the game?
