re: Rockets target Anderson. Pelicans have NOT shown interest in Omer Asik.

Agreed...
We would be giving them a formula they know works. We would be accepting a contract that will put us into the luxury tax next season when Asik's contract balloons.
In order to make this work, hand over parsons, or find a 3rd team that is willing to give up a legit 3 at a decent price, and make it work.
We can find a 5 without losing Ryno. Is that 5 going to be as good of a fit as Asik, no, but it won't cost us a 4 that can shoot lights out and open the paint up for our slashers.

Yep. Look, Asik for Anderson straight up is not a horrible deal. I just would hold out for more and not even think about cratering for less.

Talent wise, you can make that case (although I still wouldn't agree)
You have to factor in the horrible contract coming with Asik though. He's no where near a $14M/year C. Is he that much of an upgrade over Withey and a couple stopgap fillers (bangers) on the cheap? I just don't think so.

My only comment is I don't want Ryno in Houston dropping 6-7 bombs on us.

But we didn't just add Howard and are saying we are making a title run.
Yes, we need a C and an SF, but we are aiming for 2015, 2014 at the earliest, not 2013.

Teams are going to be knocking down Houston's door trying to get Asik. They'll have no trouble whatsoever trading him
These are the keys. I think the first quote means that Dell can and should try to push for more than a straight swap. If Ryan Anderson is their primary target and they're truly in championship-now mode, then the Pelicans have some room to make a reasonable demand for extra assets.
But the second quote is vital too. Houston is going to laugh and hang up the phone if Demps tries to play hardball and demands Parsons and Asik for Anderson. I would say Houston wants Anderson more than we want Asik, due to their shorter-term goal, and that we could get away with going for a little extra as a result -- but let's not kid ourselves, Houston will have plenty of suitors for Asik.
I wouldn't ask for Motiejunas though. I think going for a 3 is probably the best move if we want a second asset. Someone who can shoot the 3 ideally. We know Parsons is off the table. Who would Houston be willing to send that can shoot the 3?

Asik is much better than a few stop gaps...
The cost of adding THE guy that works better than any other 4 DH12 has ever played with, and pending luxury tax ramifications next season is Parsons.
If they want to risk a shot at the title with another guy, that is certainly their prerogative. If they want a guarantee that DH12 will work well with a guy, that they will produce great numbers, and create 1 on 1s in the paint, pay up.

That's not his contract. His contract counts as ~8M toward the cap if we acquire him

The thing about Asik and Parsons is that they could probably fetch Aldridge (money works out almost exactly).

And DH12 with Kobe couldn't get shite done.
With Ryno, you know it works.

Without Anderson there is going to be almost no spacing for this team. Demps signed Aminu with the thought that he'd have Anderson to bring into space the floor. If we trade him we need almost an equivalent shooter back along with asik
ETA: it's a division rival pushing in all their chips. We have anderson locked up and happy for three more years. Without him the rockets are going nowhere next season. IF THEY WANT HIM COME AND CLAIM HIM

Asik's contract doesn't balloon. It'd be $8.3 million each year.

If we trade Anderson for a center I want a 3 team trade where Anderson can go to Houston but we have to find an elite 3 or 5 with another team and if we do find an elite 3 then move Gordon for a good 5

I guess the "my only comment" statement was too good to be true.

I agree with this. If Ryno is their primary target, then it seems to me that the Pels have the leverage. Asik is now expendable for them, so just giving him up is not a hard enough decision for them to make. If Houston wants Ryno, they need to pay up. We don't have to make a move here..
