Obviously he will opt out of the 9 mil per season. How much is he worth? He has improved every season in the league. Has a PER of 21. Would a 5/80 with the 5th year a player option be worth it or will someone offer more?

I'm thinking more like an average of $12-13 million.

Me too. I don't see Randle as a core piece with Holiday/Tatum unless it's as an acceptably priced 6th man. If someone wants him as their starter and gives him $15-$20 I think the Pels need to be prepared to let him walk.

He’s worth 2/3 a max due to poor defense.

This board severely underrates Randle imo. I think that number is a little high but it certainly wouldn’t make me go jump off a bridge or call people drunk. 15-16 a year isn’t close to max money so I don’t even know why that term is being thrown around, though if you’re going 5 years I’d prefer 5 to be a team, not a player option. If this staff believe that Randle can continue to develop his overall game and turn him into more than an iso scorer on offense, I’m all for giving him that type of deal. Theoretically, his fit around a Jrue/Tatum could provide a post presence if they could distribute the shots accurately. Having a guy to feed in the post who can kick out to guys on the perimeter or dump off to cutters just provides another efficient dimension to our offense as a whole. Also, if his 35% 3 pt shot can continue on that path or even go up a 1-3%, that’s a pretty decent clip from a player you don’t see as a shooter who can get that shot almost any time he wants.

Dude is a black hole on offense and is putting up big numbers on a shite team right now. I don’t think passing is in his vocabulary. I do not want him anywhere near this team if we end up trading for Tatum.

Really? Do you watch him or just find something to criticize? He is 5th in the NBA in assists per game by a PF by the way. If you want to criticize something, it is his defense.

Isn't 12 a year what we paid Soloman after he averaged a whopping 5 points game with the pacers. Really think that's all Randle will get??

Yes I watch him. He’s frustrating to watch. How many times per game does he iso and try to take his man off the dribble only to turn it over or throw up an ill advised shot? He plays hero ball on offense and gives zero effort on defense. He’s putting up big numbers right now on a shite team and people are falling for it.

2016 was a unique situation with the cap escalation in one year

That's how the warriors got Durant

A lot of GMs made big mistakes that year

You said he never passes and yet, he does, and is a fairly good passer. So, you seem to focus on what you want to simply complain.

I know, that's what happens when you have a piss poor gm with a win now at all cost mentality. He shoulda held back and let the gm's spend like drunken sailors and kept flexibility. Then obtained free assets when all the other teams were squeezed against the cap soon afterward. It's how the nets stole D Russell and we end up with solo... No vision

I want to keep Randle. But we need a good coach who can use him.

Elf, Jrue and Randle are legit good players and people we can build around. Tatum or DSJ & Knox would also be good players to add and build through the draft & free agency. But we need coach.

What does that mean, exactly, though?

A trying Anthony Davis puts up better apg and AST% numbers than Randle on cleaningtheglass, B-Ref, and NBA.com. Don't think anyone is arguing he is a great passer.

Ignoring Randle's defense, where exactly is a high usage 4 who gives you 5 assists and 4 turnovers per 100 possessions going to take you? He's a good pro who plays hard, but he has some obvious flaws that make him a tricky piece.

Pels shouldn't be hellbent on moving on; if he wants to come back on a reasonable deal, great. But he should not be seen as a key building block going forward.

Almost everyone on the roster now will not be a serious part of the next good Pels team.

Randle is a large Tyrec. He will put up pretty good numbers, but make some absolutely boneheaded plays on offense. He can be a solid defender if he puts in the effort, but he too often doesn't. He could be a really good big off the bench on a really good to great team, but I don't see him being a key piece on a good team.
