I'm curious to see how this lineup works defensively. If it works at decently, that is our best lineup and I think that both of your predictions are correct. If it doesn't, then I think Mirotic/Randle is matchup driven (in end game) and maybe Payton is out there. Kinda depends on Payton's defense versus' Mirotic's defense on the perimeter.

The finishing five will not be universal.

Tell me the team we are playing, and I can give you the finishing five. But there will be 3-4 finishing fives, and it will depend on the matchup.

clearly true
but the majority of the time i feel like they'll settle into a typical finishing lineup, vagaries of opponent(s) aside. i do think that holiday/moore or clark (ie: not payton) will be on the floor at the end of games regardless

I would bet Jrue-Moore-AD is in every finishing 5. Unless Moore is super off that night.

I would also bet that at least one of Mirotic/Randle is in the finishing 5. Sometimes both, bot not often. I would bet the most common finishing 5 is

Clark-Jrue-Moore-Niko-AD

Others will include:

Jrue-Moore-Miller (or Hill) - Niko-AD
Jrue-Moore - The three bigs
Payton-Jrue-Moore-Niko-AD

moore played 2500 minutes over 80 games last year (30+ min/game). that was by far the most he's ever played, and a 20% increase over the previous year

that's gotta flatten out, yes?
maybe a bit fewer minutes and a higher usage rate would be more ideal for him. the talent is there to make a real impact and create a bit more gravity on the offensive end. what else can/should moore be able to add to his game?

I would think between Payton and Solo, Moore should see fewer minutes.

Because for around 30 games last year Rondo got 15ish minutes only playing in the 1st and 3rd because he just DGAF that night or it was a bad matchup. Maybe Payton will have similar matchup issues but I expect him to give decent effort most nights.

It’s universally know that Jrue & AD will be in the starting and finishing 5. There’s no debating that.

I also think that despite matchup (unless someone can convince me otherwise) Niko will be in the finishing 5.

The rest is up in the air imo.

Moore very well could be in both the starting and finishing 5 the most out of anyone not named AD or Jrue, but I think he’s far from being a certainty.

I would think the team would like for Payton to finish games since Jrue had really played best t off ball. Could Payton-jrue-Moore finish?

The secret to this team's success was defense leading to quick offense. They are not really a good offensive team in the half court. Everyone is trying to find the right mix that maximizes the traditional half court offensive sets. To me the key to getting the most out of the offense is to maximize the defense so they can create transition and early shot clock opportunities.

2 reasons for that
-davis is not a great passer (the one area they will miss cousins)
-they dont have a broken play creator

if davis can be a better facilitator and moore can improve just a bit in shot creation, they'll be tough to stop

Holiday can't be your lead creator for an entire game, but to finish games - he was fantastic last season. You can search Clutch time ratings and stats pretty easily, and when you do that you will see that the Pels and Holiday were tremendous in the end of games with Holiday-Moore backcourts and Holiday-Clark backcourts.

Im hoping Miller ca n find more minutes somewhere. Preferably taking all of Hills minutes. Love me some Darius Miller.

One of the reasons I wonder about Payton-Jrue-Moore is bc of the length Payton brings on the perimeter. If his defense improves with our staff, he could be really versatile.

Miller’s issue is when he’s not hitting, he becomes almost unplayable.

He’s a good midrange shooter, but his inside game, finishing, and defense are lackluster.

He seemed to improve towards the end of the year when he put the ball down instead of just catch and shoot.

I love the PER stat, and for most of the year he was at the top of the league in PER for low volume players. I feel like if you're one of the most efficient players in basketball, you should get atleast a few more minutes.

But you're right, his shot can just be really flat sometimes, and he cant make it when his shot is flat.

As far as I’m concerned, how well and where Payton fits into the scheme of things is unknown to me. Honestly, I really haven’t watched a lot of the guy.
