It’s silly af to assume he can’t. His mobility issues has been solved with the weight loss. His ability and IQ was never questioned in college when he was unquestionably the best defender in the game.

He played for Gentry and SVG who managed to make Favors and Adams look like bad defensive players. If Ingram who was considered a lost cause became a competent defender in Greens system and JV who everyone said was a liability on defense was actually solid last season with us, why tf wouldn’t Zion make a leap in the system.

It’s like Zion isn’t capable or some shite.

It's silly to assume he can't have a Draymond like impact on defense?

Draymond has quite literally been one of this generation's best defenders? And it's much less so based on athletic skillset and much more so based on just knowledge and instincts defensively that you can't teach.

It's entirely logical to think that Zion can't do that and will never reach Draymond's ability on defense.

Having the same type of impact does not mean he will be as good as Green. I’m still don’t see any reason why he can’t. He damn sure looked good his rookie season in Summer league and Preseason before his initial injury.

maybe even title favorite and same for Zion MVP contender/favorite if that happens.
no doubt about that. if zion is +60% FG again, and plays draymond-defense he's going to win the MVP (he's not going to play draymond-defense though)

Agreed on both accounts.

Not gonna happen, but if it did, we're a 55 win team, and if we're a 55 win team, Zion likely is a cakewalk to the MVP especially considering MVP is dominated by narrative, and that'll be 1 hell of a narrative to go long with a dude who'd arguably be the #1 best player in the NBA.

Yes but let's see if he can reach 65 / 70 games this season.
Zion isn't even supposed to play preseason a lot.

The main reason he can’t/won’t is because Zion will be asked to exert far more on offense than Green.

If Draymond had any sort of offensive role in GS he wouldn’t be as effective a defender as he is.

not to pick on anybody but i dont think saying anyone else in the league can play "draymond-defense" like its a matter of athletic ability is at all likely or to be expected.

draymond is an arse but he's probably the smartest player in the league. if there is any active player out there that i would bet becomes a successful NBA coach in the future it's him (if he wants to). nothing but respect for that dude and he's one of one. if zion even approaches that level of defense and playmaking he will be unanimous MVP

but he needs to be legit threat from 3 when Zion/CJ kick it out to him and he's open.

He wasn't open 99% of the time last year. He was double teamed more than anything most of the games.

Yeah there isn’t a defender in the league who’s gonna be able to bother Trey on those looks. He’s just too fricking tall and Z is too wide/strong to move around easily.

Trey looks longer than before. Maybe its the camera angle.

He said he grew over the summer, I would imagine he's got a slightly longer wingspan now too.

Draymond Green is still the best playmaker of GS, the assist leader of the team.
Draymond isn't Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman but...BW and DR were offensive rebounds leaders of their team yet.

What about Giannis (the people compare Zion with Giannis), Embiid, Curry (he's defensively good), Kawhi and others maybe ?

Collins is not a ball handler or shooter. Trey is capable of hanging the rock or knocking down the 3 at a much higher clip. Trey is also solid on defense. Collins is a athletic true power forward who can finish around the rim and serviceable at the 3 if he isn't asked to shoot it that often. 2 totally different players.

Collins contests in the post and hits on offensive boards. His style is more akin to Zion. Teams like Atl will slow the game on the Pels. TM is a shooter and long like BI and can be a great help defender, but players like Biyambo slice through TM and the Pels. Maybe the added weight helps to use as a 4/5?

Herb Jones nominated Trey Murphy extending his 3-point shooting range as the thing that has stood out to him the most after the first week of Pelicans training camp.

If Herb, who by accounts has been a gym rat amongst a team of gym rats, working with Vinson all summer, is also improved?

Man, I really can’t wait to see our lineups of death featuring some combo of: CJ, Herb, BI, Trey, Zion, Nance. BI/Zion PnR’s with CJ/Trey at the three point line. If Trey is as improved as hyped, it’s unguardable
