From a stein article. Shamit:

quote:

Marc Stein also reports that James Borrego is being pursued by the Pelicans for a top assistant role and that Washington might pursue Trajan Langdon

quote:

I personally thought Borrego ran a lot of creative stuff in Charlotte for his offense. His final year in Charlotte, they were 9th in offense, 6th in pace, 3rd in rim rate, 2nd in corner three frequency. Arguably had the 2nd best shot profile in the league

hopefully that spells the end of the invisible man, D'Antoni. Willy needs an elite schemer on the bench with him.

Works for me. He did solid in Charlotte all things considered. Langdon going to Washington would be very interesting

Was one of Monty’s guys when he first got here. People seemed to speak highly of him and he rose pretty fast. I’m down.

got him

James Borrego has agreed to become New Orleans’ associate head coach. Borrego spent four seasons as Charlotte’s head coach, including back-to-back play-in berths. Pelicans are eager to incorporate his offensive philosophy.

I’m sold. Our offense was so painful to watch last year once we lost the 1v5 wrecking ball. So much standing around and lack of spacing. Pretty excited to see what this guy can do, especially if we can give him another shooter or two to work with.

Really like this hire. With all the offensive power on this team, we def needed an offensive minded coach. The main question is if he can improve the bench scoring (outside of Murphy). I would love to see some PNR with Hayes. Kira seems to be working on his mid range shot too. I haven’t given up on Kira yet, he’s still only 22.

Murphy better not come off the bench. But that’s another conversation

Huge hire and had some winning seasons with the Hornets, who I think are the worst run team in the league. We needed an offensive coordinator and get a really good one

Just glancing through the internet and seems like Charlotte fans really liked his offense and weren’t 100% thrilled he was fired. No sour grapes from them. And a lot of other fans with teams looking at him for an assistant role are pretty disappointed.

so you want to bring that ray romano looking mofo back who was here from 2010-2012. You remember they sucked arse on offense those years right? He is good with elite guards like most coaches. But the pelicans lack elite guards. The offense will get worse under Borrego

As if a coach can’t improve after 10 years in the league.
