According to the linked Forbes article, Bzdelik is a Pelican.
That's not what I read. They said he's Pelican per Marc Stein's tweet which just said we made an offer and he's weighing his options.

The Pelicans have offered a spot on Alvin Gentry's coaching staff to the highly regarded Jeff Bzdelik, league sources say, as Bzdelik weighs his next steps after parting ways with Houston

Said tweet did not load on my work computer. Apologies.
The title of the article did read as definitive.

The author of the Forbes article takes the offer as an acceptance. IE its bullshite. Does anyone do their homework anymore?

Just read a recent article on the (Chicago) Daily Herald (can't link) that the agreement is in place.
But much like seemingly every NBA trade or signing delay, Bzdelik won't be officially on the team until after Labor Day (his Rockets contract pays through August.) So it is effectively a done deal.
Goes on to list the Lakers, Grizzlies, and Bulls (the team the Daily Herald covers) as the teams he turned down.

Andrew Lopez talks about this on Friday's Locked on Pels episode

SIGNING WILL BE SUCH sweet payback for Jeff Bzdelik, the Prospect High grad (Class of '71) who disconnected as associate head coach of the Houston Rockets in May.
Bzdelik -- who got caught in a predictable panic attack by the ego-immersed tandem of owner Tilman Fertitta and GM Daryl Morey -- is deep in negotiations to take over as defensive lead for Alvin Gentry, Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans.
Brains behind the coup is David Griffin, the Pelicans new exec VP of basketball and architect of the Cleveland Cavaliers 2016 NBA championship.
It is believed that Bzdelik turned down offers from the Lakers, the Bulls and the Grizzlies, among others, after his strained walkaway from the Rockets.
Since Bzdelik's final deal with Houston pays through August, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski isn't expected to make the New Orleans click official until sometime around Labor Day.

Hanson to Timberwolves?

Hanson spent the last four season on the Pelicans staff and according to the Pelicans’ website, Hanson worked “extensively” with All-Star Anthony Davis when Davis was in New Orleans.
4 years? It's really a shame how little coverage the coaching staffs in the league get. He's been here throughout the AD era and is credited with helping him continually improving his game. He will be missed by the Pels, but unlike in the past I would assume they'll add a capable replacement.

We have lost or allowed to leave - Hanson, Penberthy and Erman since last year. Gentry/Griffin seem to be overhauling the coaching staff.

The loss(or firing) of Erman is to get Bzdelik.
Who is reported to have a verbal agreement but not yet official due to a contract timeline with Houston that is still paying him.
The other two are what happens when people start to notice you have a good staff....they get poached.
The key going forward is to ensure you have a good scouting department and pipeline to fill those holes as coaches move on and up. Bzdelik is a good indication that we have that with Griffin so far.

Houston defense was pretty bad last season.
How is this an upgrade?

Their defense under him was really good in 2017-2018. He left the team and they were god awful defensively to start last year. The begged him to come back mid season and they got back on track.

But really, in the 17-18 season when the Pels were pretty good defensively (12th) the Rockets were (6th). This is with them having a turnstile in Harden on the court for the vast majority of minutes.

He wasn't there for most of the season when they were terrible, so they asked him to return and their defense immediately and drastically improved.

Sources: Pelicans’ assistant coach Kevin Hanson has accepted a position with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
