Pretty sure The Pelicans and three top NBA franchises wouldn't be pursuing him if they weren't confident that he will be playing this season.

They can think all they want, but he's never proven he can do it, so the assumption on our end has to be that it is a GIANT risk.

I'm fine with signing Oden.

I am 100% not fine with giving up any players of quality (Rivers/Smith) for him. If we do, I'll be extremely pissed off. It is too giant a gamble to give up anyone worth a shite.

Check out these Highlights of Oden's NBA career. We would be foolish to not sign this guy. I dare somebody watch that and argue against the signing. LINK

Austin Rivers went from negative value to an assert after 3 summer league games? On a team with like 10 guards?

C'mon.

If Oden has a clean bill of health and the FO is confident enough to bring him in, I have no problem trading Rivers or Smith.

There is a hole a center and more than enough depth at guard. I don't see the problem

When were those highlights taken?

(again, I'm not arguing against the signing, I'm arguing against trading anyone of quality for him)

But why send Loomis if that were the case?

Loomis was already in Vegas for Summer League. Although if this was all for show to do Oden or the agent a favor it does seem like Loomis wouldn't be tagging along.

Rivers is expendable. As soon as everyone realizes this the better.

Now whether you think he is worth expending for Greg Oden is another story.

Yup.

Rivers is a players that is bad now with some upside . . . that is now behind Drew Holiday (hell, D Collison).

Oden is convincing people he has a puncher's chance and has higher upside where the Pelicans don't have a glut of talent.

Oh boy, some highlights before he had to have major knee surgeries and miss 3 years of basketball. Should we look up Brandon Roy highlights as well? Maybe Shaquille O'Neal? I bet he has an awesome highlight reel.

ETA: Just clicked it. Very well played.

Or does average have a new meaning?

I would rather have Stiemsma, Withey, and Davis get those 12-15 minutes than Smith. We have more scoring now in our guards, we need solid D in the post.

Just because there's a chance Smith may be healthier than Oden doesn't mean those minutes that would have been given to Smith can't be replicated or improved upon.

I don't think anyone has a problem with that. The big issue is that it's extremely unlikely that Oden will ever be completely healthy and Rivers and Smith will be more valuable than that.

Did you link a "highlight" video that's 5 seconds? You had to be doing that sarcastically.

Was it the 5 secs that gave it away or him collapsing to the ground?

I will be furious if Jason Smith doesn't retire a Pelican.

No it's not. Smith is my favorite player and I'd be devastated to see him in another jersey.

Prepare yourself then. Smith will be getting a raise next season that might make this his last year as a Pelican. It all depends on whether Benson is willing to pay taxes.
