I don't think they would move Smith or Rivers on a whim. They have to be fairly confident in Oden if that happens. If we thought Oden could be a legit 15-20 MPG defensive force we'd trade either in a heart beat.

What exactly do you know about Oden's health?

Again, Gordon has played 49 games in TWO seasons. The same thing can be said for him

Oden has played 82 games in his entire career and hasn't played a second since 2010.

I don't know how healthy Oden is, and this entire thing is odd. And maybe Jester has a point that it could be just smoke (doesn't seem likely, though, to me).

I have to believe that DellMonty have done their due diligence though. If they give up either Rivers or Smiht, they have to have some confidence. ???

Did you paste the wrong quote? Because when you replied to it in the other thread you used that same quote to agree with me

As for what I know about Oden's health the answer is less than Demps and Monty.

What's up with the talk of Rivers and Smiht being involved in this? Just speculation by the board?

Rumors have us offering 3 mil or so. Only way for that to work is to do a S&T with Portland.

I don't have a firm position on the issue, but a healthy and productive Oden would be pretty sweet, IMO. Again I'm ambivalent at the moment

It's salary caponomics based on the reported rumor. The Pelicans are allegedly making an offer in the $3 million range. They do not have the cap space or exceptions to do that on their own. Portland still holds the rights to Oden and could do a S&T, presumably using their cap room MLE which is $2.65 million. That means the Pelicans have to send at least $1.75 million to the Blazers and the trade rules restricting recently signed players means that it's unlikely you could package enough minimum guys like Roberts and Miller to get to the $1.75 million figure. That leaves trading Rivers or Smith to make this happen.

And you're not paying him a lot of money

What's the big deal?

Like I said earlier. The Pelicans dont join three of the top NBA franchises in going after a player if they aren't at least somewhat confident he will play this season a decent bit.

for me, at least, it isn't the fact that I don't think he currently can play a bit. it's more the question of will he be able to stay somewhat healthy. so far, he's been unable to do that for an extended period of time. is that worth the risk of giving up some combination of rivers, smith, miller, and roberts?
