I'm in an online marketing class at lsu and the pels are coming in in a couple of weeks to pick our brains about why their mobile site gets way more traffic than the website. I think it's because pels fans tend to be younger and more on the go. If y'all have anything you'd like to contribute or for me to talk to them about besides cleaning house and killing Eric Gordon, let me know on here.

They have 82 games and I'll bet lots of people are checking the schedule and so on from their phone.

More detail: basically the Saints desktop website gets significantly more hits than the mobile website, which is good because they can charge more money for advertisements on their site. They wanna know how to drive more people to the desktop site for the pels so they can make more money off of advertisements.

I don't use the Pels website much at all, I do use their App some though. I'm not sure if that counts in their stats or not, but when I use it, it's often to keep track of the game when I can't watch, or to read the recaps. It's just easier to read those on my phone because it's usually at night when I'm not on my computer.

Do they differentiate between phones and tablets, because the desktop is dying for home computing. Their best bet is to show ads when they detect a tablet.

Team calendar featuring players in speedos on the main site only?

I'll admit, I'm not a marketing expert.

Tell them that the fan base is less enraged by seeing the name Monty Williams on a smaller screen.

Obviously this is not really going to help them for this meeting, but a lot comes down to popularity. NOLA fans are going to spend more time on Saints sites because they are more interested in what the Saints are doing day to day. Like others have said the mobile site is good for quick looks at the schedule and upcoming events.

If you want to drive more traffic to the website you have to give the fans a reason to look more often and that is not by filling more space with advertisements. Have more player interviews so the fans feel like they know these players better, have interviews with Dell and Monte that ask tougher questions that the fans want to know. Leak insider information to the site. Fans love to be in the know, so every so often throw people some scoop that is only posted on the website.

Just my opinions.

The fact that the Saints website had a longer time to become routine prior to the advent of smartphones may be part of it. Habits are hard to break for some.

According to PT, "Monty Williams is an idiot" is the answer to everything. I'm going with that

Here's a stat that might be of use.

quote:

MIT Sports Conf. ?@SloanSportsConf 1m

@StubHub: Our traffic driven by mobile is ~50%, and ~40% of customers are purchasing within 72 hours of an event #SSAC14

@smithjt1: Mobility changes consumer behavior because of the convenience #SSAC14

Again, desktop is going away for home use. The Pelicans need to learn to add value to the mobile experience rather than hoping they can turn back time.

Twitter goes a long way.

They should tease stuff on twitter with direct links to the website. Player interviews, player and coaches profiles, upcoming promotions, behind the scenes stuff, profile the dancers, parking tips, etc

Their website sucks. They had like the 2012 media guide up for a year or two after the season ended. They should have email and phone numbers for all ticket reps and their hire ups. Make shite accessible

Player interviews

I don't know how often they do it, but I've occasionally stumbled upon interviews Joel Meyers does during shoot around on game day and, no offense to Sean Kelley who I like a lot, but the stuff Joel did was just much better than the Black and Blue interviews. They need to do more of those and promote them as much as they do the Black and Blue report.
