He is a ball hog
1) You can't be a "ball hog" and average 5 assists per game over your career. JR Smith is a ball hog.
2) Who cares if he's a "ball hog" when he shoots 45% or more from the field in 3 of his 4 seasons? If shot attempts are the issue then I guess you wouldn't want Kevin Durant either since he's a "ball hog".

Not really. His PPG have gone down but his minutes and shot attempts were very low this year compared to his career averages. He actually had a great year because his percentages were both career highs from the field and from 3. His PER was just 0.1 point behind his PER from his amazing rookie year.

You are still trying to force a sg/pg into a role he is not comfortable with whether he said it or not his game exists in the backcourt handling the ball at some level. I
The reports are that he's taking a Manu Ginobili-esque backup role. He won't be limited to the 3.

is this really something we should put 44mil into.. probably not.
Well, I like young talent and he's a great option if we ship out Gordon, so I say yes.

Was just told that Hawks/Tyreke meeting was more Evans' agent idea than Hawks idea. They are lukewarm on him. Not a threat IMO

Figured as much. Hawks have no reason to go hard after him unless they REALLY like him. Never thought they would like him for $12m+ a year.

That's good for us I hope.

Hope the kings won't match.
I feel like we are in PHX's position last year.

Yea, me too unfortunately. I was optimistic when reports came out before free agency that the Kings were extending the 6.9mil offer and probably wouldn't pay more, but now I'm not so sure.

I was reading some Kings message boards and it seems their team is desperate for a SF and have plenty of guards to fill the 1 and 2 spot. They have been in the mix for Iggy so they may just S&T for Greivis and Lopez or something similar and then go hard after Iggy. It seems pretty split there on retaining Tyreke or doing the S&T and getting a SF, so we will see what their front office thinks.

Speaking of Lopez, people on Real GM are throwing ideas out there that would send him to OKC.
The idea would be that we get back a combo of non-guaranteed / partially guaranteed guys like DeAndre Liggins, Daniel Orton, Hasheem Thabeet, etc., plus something like Perry Jones III or a future 1st (OKC 1st, Dallas 1st with top-20 protection, etc.).
Liggins and Orton are non-guaranteed while Thabeet's guarantee is $500K, same as Lopez, but his contract is only $1.25m per season.
Perry Jones III's contract is for $1m.
Probably not the best deal we could get, but it would allow us to create cap space, get a backup big in Thabeet for bench depth, and possibly a trade chit like Jones or a future 1st.

So they are willing to get rid of Tyreke because they need a SF. We need a SF but we are trying to sign Tyreke?

You publicly declare this for 2 reasons:
1) You don't want to pay a lot so you hope a team believes you and offers him $7.5 million and you can get him cheap.
2) You let teams know you want to keep him but would rather S&T.
I don't think the Kings want to go near 4/$44 but I think they rejected doing a S&T for Vasquez so Demps is telling them he offered Vasquez as a courtesy, he'll just move Lopez instead and they'll get nothing.

I don't think the Kings going after any guards is bad for us. Sounds like they're finding options to fill the void for Tyreke.

K. I was thinking from a standpoint of giving up Vasquez in sign and trade. Thanks guys.

It's probably a combination of posturing "Well we don't need Vasquez anyway" and doing due diligence in case there isn't a S&T involving Vasquez.
Mike Malone is the new coach and I'm sure he's going to try to set up a culture of winning like Monty did, and you can't do that if your most talented, highest paid guys Evans and Cousins have tension between them. If they're hitching their wagon to Cousins they're better off letting Tyreke go. Whether they buy into that logic remains to be seen, but they'd have to be nuts to want to pay that much to keep the status quo.
