New Orleans, who lost forward Jason Smith to season-ending knee surgery, has been extremely active in trade talks past several days.

Does that seem to imply we're looking to make a trade to replace Jason Smith's role for the remainder of the season?

It seems like we could really use some PF depth with Smiht out for the year and no time-table on Anderson's return

Great idea.

But seriously. I hope it's not some insignificant PF that won't make a bit of difference to the team.

Semi-rhetorical question-

What tradeable assets do we really have at the moment?

We can't trade any picks before 2016.

Most of our money is tied up in guys who are either staying or are on long-term contracts and injured. Ajinca's going nowhere because he's a recent signee and not trade-eligible.

Gordon is movable, as is Aminu, Steamer, Smith's expiring deal, Rivers, Morrow, Miller, Roberts, and Withey.

Tyreke is theoretically movable, but the length and size of his contract makes it hard to find any takers on him.

Morrow may end up being attractive to someone as a bench sniper after last night, but the value of most of these assets are as expiring deals.

It's probably something we're looking for, but we also are getting closer to the deadline so I'd be surprised if Demps wasn't ramping up the deal making anyway. He's usually listed as one of the more active GMs.

Thrillho posted this in a thread yesterday:

Talking to league insiders, I'm hearing these names are being mentioned in trade talks within league circles (a lot of talk right now) ...
A. Afflalo, T. Ariza, C. Singleton, G. Davis, R. Evans, P. Gasol, T. Gibson, C. Landry, G. Monroe, A. Rivers, T. Sefolosha and G. Vasquez.

Every name on that list is a player that I would classify as not in their current team's long term plans. I'd put an * next to Landry because he was just signed and been injured most of the year, but other than that, that list reads "For Sale" to me. So what does it say that Rivers is on the list?

Would you be pissed if we netted Greg Monroe and lost rivers in the process?

Monroe would do wonders for this team. A legit post threat with great passing ability.

I am preparing myself for a Rivers-less Pelicans team at this point. I too am going to be very freaking mad, especially cause I'm not expecting Greg Monroe in return, I'm expecting another expiring Carl Landry type deal.

Monty's got to clear the way for BRob to get his 42 a game brah.

I can see us trading Rivers for some scrub marginal bench big. Dell loves trading minor bench players for minor bench players.

My guess on Pelicans "activity" in trade talks is that they are acting as a third team in may scenarios. Adding a minor piece, not moving EJ

The Magic are looking for young talent, the Cavs are so dysfunctional that the veteran they just traded for to fix the dysfunction, Luol Deng, won't be able to run away fast enough this offseason. Charlotte is in Win Now mode.

Pels get: Afflalo, Ramon Sessions
Magic get: Austin Rivers, Earl Clark, CJ Miles future pick from Charlotte
Cavs get: Eric Gordon
Charlotte gets: Dion Waiters

I know 4 way trades rarely happen, but this seems to get everyone what they want. Pels upgrade Gordon for half the price. Magic get young talent (that also played HS in the area) and a pick from a destined to be bad team. The Cavs, Whose GM is on thin ice, get more veteran, and less dysfunctional and maybe have a chance of convincing Deng to stay. Charlotte gets more talent and scoring.
