The problem is we have a football guy ultimately in charge of the Pels, because he is the proxy owner.
Technically speaking, Lauscha is the proxy owner and will be thinking about the big decisions before May.

He's also downplayed his role, basically saying Demps is in charge...so I don't think Dell will fire himself.
I think that was in response to criticism of his role and the thought that the Pels caused him to be stretched too thin for the Saints. I would be surprised if they don't bring in a real POBO this offseason regardless of the decision on Demps.

I hate to see such a pessimistic view about encouraging results.
Im sure you member guys like:
James Ennis
Tim Frazier
Ish Smith
Marcus Thornton
Darren Collison
and the spurts that guys like this went through only to eventually show who they really were.
Jordan Crawford has a large body of work that pretty much already tells us what he is. 200game sample size>20 game sample size.

You were very pessimistic on Cousins eventhough he came in and did the right things after the trade.
Im big on body language. Still saw him pout. Still saw him yell at refs. Still saw him get suspended. His body language is poor and as I told you in a post the other day, i cant get over the way he was acting at the end of the Spurs game with the game on the line when things werent going his way. Again, after 7 years this is pretty much who he is. He hasn't changed, and if you watched for little things like this you can see it.

Well don't get excited and don't renew your tickets then.

im not. i canceled my full plan coming into the season.
you should buy some if you have so much faith instead of begging for free ones on this board.

How do we explain the lack of wins surrounding their 2 teams over the last few years?
Because they are bigs and this is a guard driven game. They also both have personality "flaws". Cousins wasn't far off with Fire and Ice and I really do think they'll be good for each other in terms of minimizing/masking those flaws.

thats my thought too, so know where do we get the wings from?

It was obvious that on some nights this team needed a guy in addition to AD/DC that could drop 25-30. Holiday just isn't consistent enough to be that guy, so whether you keep Holiday or not, you still need someone like that. I'd throw all my trade assets into getting Bledsoe or Dragic. If you can't get either Lin can be close enough to maybe be a stop gap.

Ish is playing well enough to be a 20mpg bench guard who's gonna generate offense and minimize mistakes.
Ennis is a heavy minute guy on a playoff team who still spaces the floor. Plays good d as well.
Collison has always been a solid bench guard, even as a starter he's not half bad either.
The two bad ones are really Frazier and Thornton.
Crawford very well could regress heavily. At the same time he could have improved (shocker) and be more consistent as long as he doesn't keep checking up bad shots. You obviously haven't watched the difference between him in Boston vs here. He's not forcing those same bad shots, instead passing the ball into the flow of the offense. His numbers may regress but he's selecting better shots to take and avoiding the bad ones.

Letting James Ennis walk still stings.
He played so good at the end of last season I thought it was a foregone conclusion he would be back with Bryce(RIP).
Then we went and decided to pay more then double the price of Ennis for a worse player. One that arguably hadn't really proven himself anymore then Ennis had up to that point.

tranny, you're too worried about proving me wrong that you missed the point.
Im not saying these players are bad, im saying they all went through a short stretch where we thought they may be more than what they truly are.
memeber that month-long stretch where Ish was going for 15/8/4?
or when Collison went 19/9/4 over a 40 game stretch as a rookie shooting 48/42/85?
or when Ennis avg 16ppg last year shooting 48% from 3?
these guys all have the same thing in common; getting minutes playing on bad teams and never reaching these numbers again once they settle into their roles.
do i hope Crawford is truly a 48fg 39 from 3 guy? yea, i do.
do i also realize his career averages are 41fg 31 3pt? yea.
chances are he isnt this good. he still could be a serviceable bench player cause this team is lacking that

This isn't like Norris Cole for half a season under Monty where he was just hot while hitting a ton of bad shots he shouldn't have been taking.
i agree that his improvement can be real. that the Pels have done a nice job of improving shooting for players. and that Crawford seems to be saying/doing the right things as an older guy who's been in China and accepts his role. all of those things are true and could mean he's going to be a guy to help make the Pels better.
same time, i do wonder how much of the "he takes good shots" idea is more b/c he is hitting them at high rates than anything else.
for example...over the last few years, there have been roughly 30-35 guys each year in the entire league who took 5 3PA/36 and hit higher than 38% (Crawford was at 7.7 and 38.9%). interestingly, Galloway, Babbit, and Hield also hit those marks this year.
just last summer some here were calling for the Pels to spend big to go after Marvin Williams, who made that list in 15/16 going 40% on 6 3PA/36. nevermind he was an 11 year pro who had hit above 36% from 3 only twice in his career. this year he shot 35% from 3. Solomon Hill shot 34.8%
perhaps Crawford can keep it going for the reasons you mentioned (i certainly hope so and am rooting for the guy). but we shouldn't be shocked if there is a bit of a regression with his shooting. he can still be useful even at lower efficiency
and, of course, unlike Hill/Williams, he is dirt cheap

I'm not worried about volume because it won't happen with davis/cousins/holiday nor am I expecting these guys to continue playing way above their mean.
The biggest issue is when people have unrealistic expectations of percentages and volume.
Crawford is more likely to be closer to his current numbers than his old numbers as long as he's not a primary guy that's he's forced to be a volume shooter. The biggest problem in his early career is his volume

how is his volume different or lower than before?
11.2 FGA/G career
11.5 FGA/G w/ Pels
16.5 FGA/36 career
17.8 FGA/36 w/ Pels
23.5 FGA/100 career
24.2 FGA/100 w/ Pels

Lots of guys around the Association become better shooters throughout their careers. It happens more with big men because it's harder for guards to get by without an outside shot... Which is why Crawford was in the D-League in the first place.
It's hardly unprecedented for a guard to improve his shooting over the course of six years of playing professionally.
Maybe Crawford has genuinely improved and the Pels lucked out in signing him. We'll find out either way.

No im pretty sure it was the fact that he wasn't a good shooter

Still saw him get suspended.
To be fair, he only got one tech through 17 games as a Pelican.
The slow to get back on defense whilst complaining after non-foul calls is REALLY bad, though. I could see that being an issue even if we were to turn into a ~55 win team. But that still got better as the season went on. In one of his most recent games played, I saw him start to complain to the ref, then get back on D and grab a tough board. It doesn't sound like much, but it's an improvement.
As for Crawford, I think he's just lagniappe. He's a terrible defender, and after this offseason I expect him to be our 4th or 5th guard (depending on how Frazier is playing). He's fun to watch and I'm rooting for him, but even if his offense doesn't dip significantly, he's still just a solid bench player.

Is that based on how stupid it is to expect Loomis to be in charge of the Saints and Pels, or have you heard that they're thinking about it? Like Fun Bunch said, it's ABSURD to have Loomis as POBO, even if he was good at it. It's not something that should be done like a hobby in your spare time.

NFL Draft is in 13 days. Saints holding a pro day today. And the POBO for the Pelicans doubles as the Saints GM.

right. question is does Benson see it that way?
based on Loomis's mid season presser, where he said his involvement with the team as the top Basketball Ops guy was overblown, Benson doesn't give a shite
