Genuinely curious what the coaches are doing with Holiday. Part of me thinks its to see if Jrue can carry a bad team without AD or Cousins on the floor but on the other hand, he's only played 9 minutes. So any of yall have a beat on what the coaches are doing with Jrue?

With just two fewer losses this season the Pelicans would have ~44 combinations. Three fewer, 63.
fricking sad. frick this front office

They shut down their best two players and have had the d league heroes on the floor the last couple weeks.
Should they have shut it down a month ago, 2 months ago, instead?

Sounds like Diallo had another good game. Someone post a link to highlights if you see them please.

That's dumb.

Because there is more to this than just cold numbers. I would have agreed with you pre-Cousins.
But once they traded for Cousins, it's much more important to build chemistry and show both guys and potential FAs that this can work. Certainly more important than gaining two spots at the chance to draft a 18 year old.
They got their lottery pick: Cousins.

And you think going 7-10 with Cousins showed teams this could work?
These guys could have still gained chemistry with Cousins had you fired Gentry and Demps and played Dleague guys earlier and more often
And Re: chance to draft an 18yr old. Huh? They could have traded the pick as well. I mean if you sit back and think about it this is how many teams became household names. Thru high draft picks, not FA. We had a chance to potentially make this one of the worst trades ever

That's incredibly misleading.
They got significantly better playing together and were quite good at times in March. To me that was worth it.
Sports aren't a science lab. You have to consider egos, thoughts, dreams, worries. These are human beings with human factors. If you have a chance of making the playoffs after the trade you have to go for it.
I'm a Pro-tank guy, but this was a completely different situation. Not sure why that is hard to understand.

Oh I understand your opinion but I think it's wrong.
Losing 6 of your first 8 games with him pretty much ruined any playoff chance.

Even if you're trying to lose, which several teams beneath us were, you still are going to win some games. Post ASB here are the win totals of the teams beneath us:
Phoenix 6 wins
Philly 7 wins
Lakers 7 wins
Orlando 8 wins
Knicks 8 wins
Kings 8 wins
Minny 9 wins
Brooklyn 11 wins
Dallas 11 wins
Pels 11 wins
So you have to figure the Pels would have gotten at least 6 wins like the Suns. That would put them tied for 5th with the Magic. The average amount of games won by this group of largely bad and tanking teams is 8.6. If you round that down to 8 you wind up in a 3 way tie for 6th. Round it up to 9 and you're tied for 8th with Sac.
The odds of losing kind of spell out how likely unfruitful a strategy tanking would have been. Even if you got 5th, that's still a 70.9% chance that you just gave Sacramento the #5-6 pick. Tied for 6th your odds of not keeping the pick are 85%, and at 8th you have a 91% chance of giving the pick to Sac.
I think you're being optimistic assuming that firing Gentry would lead to the results you desire. Not only are the odds stacked heavily against you keeping the pick, as I've said before I don't think the timing is good unless Loomis is ready to clean house. So if he's not ready to clean house then figuring out chemistry issues now rather than next season is good. Figuring out you probably need another PG/creator even if you keep Holiday is better to find out now rather than next year. Remember, leading up to the ASB Holiday was crushing it and looking like maybe he could be a max level lead guard. It was definitely good to get more data on Holiday to show you what you need next to him and possibly tell you how much you should or shouldn't spend on him.

How would you have advised they do that? Trade for Cousins and then sit him for the final 17 games? The frick are you even suggesting?
Tanking threads always shine a light on irrational people.
