Orange County (Florida) has mandated that everyone now must wear a mask in public.

3,207 new cases reported today in Florida, breaking previous record high of 2,783 from Tuesday.

Health Officer for the Orange County (site of Orlando bubble) Department of Health said its coronavirus cases are up 202% from week before.

Worrisome news for NBA, to say the least.

NEW: Florida has “all the markings of the next large epicenter” of #coronavirus transmission, with the risk being the “worst it has ever been” according to new projections by scientists at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.

Maybe they'll establish herd immunity before the NBA gets there...

More and more players are going to get apprehensive as the restart day draws closer.

Still think there is a better chance they don't play than do.

Too much money is at stake, for the players too. I think what matters is what Zach Lowe and guests have been talking about. It's not how many say no, it's who says no. Basically if most of the top 40 players that are on playoff teams go, then it won't matter if the bottom 100 players bail and have to be replaced by GLeaguers.

A lot of the players have been out at protests, it's not like they're holing up in their penthouses. I would think being at a protest is inherently more dangerous for catching corona than being in the NBA bubble.

we'll find out a lot once all of the players are tested

Isn’t the point of the bubble that people shouldn’t be going in and out of it, therefore it really shouldn’t matter if cases are spiking in surrounding areas?

I don't think players are scared of getting sick, except that getting sick means that you have to sit out ten days and your team needs you. These guys don't think that they're going to end up in the hospital. They think it's going to be like a cold for them, and they're probably right. (The coaches might be a different story.)

That's the interesting angle. D'Antoni, Pop and Uncle Al have the coach's union fighting hard for them to not be discriminated against because of their age.

I almost posted an article about it, but the union is saying that if they don't get to coach from the bench they may not coach again after this season and I don't think the board can handle that kind of false hope.

The players can't leave but there's still hotel workers and stuff coming and going.

Too late. I like Uncle Al, I really do, but i want a new coach really bad.

Housekeeping, food services, etc... Those folks aren't going to be in the bubble.

Yeah.

I haven't looked at the Florida data at all in context? Is it a real spike? Are they testing significantly more and the positive rate is staying constant? Spiking? Are hospitalizations rising sharply? Deaths? Ventilators?

I don't have a clue. From the beginning these numbers have always been overly politicized one way or the other so you have to look at the context of the numbers. Oleh Kosel posting the numbers gleefully makes me dubious as to what is actually going on in context.

Sound like we need to move everything to New Orleans.

Games at the Blender, Lake Front and Alario Center.

Problem solved.

I haven’t looked at the whole plan, but I know at one point there was discussions about them being in the bubble.

If it is a concern, maybe the NBA or the teams can bring their own staff to handle those services. How many have stayed in hotels whereby the staff went home at night and came back the next day?

Hospitalizations up about 4 percent. 7 day death average down but that typically takes a few weeks after positive tests so that number will spike soon.

Not necessarily. In fact, I'd say that it's unlikely. Our treatment of those infected is continuing to improve, and the mortality rate for those hospitalized continues to go down. Additionally, much of the early mortality was from nursing homes, and we're continuing to improve our protection of vulnerable populations.

this whole thing is going to be bootleg.
at this point I wish the pels season was over so they could be focusing on player skill development and culture, here at the training facility

the Orlando thing is going to be nothing but a giant Petri dish of tampering and COVID and I want our players to have no part in it

the “champion” will be illegitimate and there’s literally nothing good that can come of this

It's pretty bad. This is from a Tom Haberstroh tweet, pretty sure this is specifically Orange County:

quote:

On June 6:
2,732 tests
56 came back positive (2.0%)

~2 weeks later.

On June 18:
2,253 tests
340 came back positive. (15.1%)

LeBron and Zion already seem to have beef. Not to mention all the former Lakers that LeBron threw away like trash. I'm honestly not worried about tampering. For once the Pels are the ones with the attractive situation instead of the lonely star player everyone is trying to steal.
