Lots of smoke that Washington is taking him if he’s there. It’s sounding more and more like 3-6 is going to be VJ -3, Kon-4, and then Tre and Fears in some order at 5 & 6. Sounds like Bailey and Maluach might be there at 7.
In a perfect world someone would take Maluach too and we get to choose between Kon and Bailey. I personally hope Fears/ Tre are off the board so we aren't the team taking them compared to those other 3 guys.

Take it for what it’s worth but Jake Madison said the pelicans had Maluach in for a workout and really like him. According to him seems like pels are leaning towards Maluach at 7

That doesn't make sense to me. I don't think Missi is a great player, but he's a serviceable Center and can be paired with a lesser (cheaper) option, in a rotation. You can't play Maluach and Missi together. So they would have to rotate (Maluach 28-30mpg and Missi 18-20mpg). Just doesn't seem to fill a huge need or provide a massive upgrade, unless they believe that Maluach has elite level potential.

I don't like the idea of having two centers who can't shoot.
I do like the idea of having two athletic rim protecting centers who are great rim runners on offense.
I don't like the fact that neither of them are great rebounders for their size, although we have good rebounding guards/forwards and if Zion commits he should be getting near 10 boards a game.
I do like the fact that Maluach is a really good FT shooter at 77%, and I think Missi can improve on his 62%. Feels like he was closer to 70% the first half of the season then wasn't too good down the stretch.
I also like the fact that your two centers are going to make a combined $10ish million a year for the next 3 years.
All that being said, I'd much rather use #7 not on a center. I think we can get Kalkbrenner or Raynaud at #23 and I'd like having them and then a veteran minimum center on the roster.

I’ve said it before, I like Missi he was a good pick for 21 in a bad draft but I’m not convinced he’s a starting center yet. Our rim protection and rebounding analytics were awful when he was on the floor last year. At 7 you shouldn’t be picking for need. I’m not the biggest Maluach fan but he does has pretty good upside. Also Dumars regime didn’t pick Missi so we don’t know how they feel about him. They could be much lower on Missi than Griff’s regime. This could be a case of Dumars not being sold on Missi so he wants to go and get “his” guy at center

I’ll push back on this slightly. Both Missi and Maluach are great offensive rebounders. Missi nearly led the league as a rookie, and Maluach was among the best in college as an 18 year old. But yeah both are underwhelming defensive rebounders

I think the FT% for Maluach is a really underrated aspect and shows actual shooting potential for him. 77% is an outlier number for guys his size. 7’2 guys simply don’t shoot anywhere near that well from the line.

They gave up 66% at the rim last season. While getting guys healthy will help, they need to figure out to get that number under 50% going into the season. Our frontcourt isn't good enough right now as they are.

Maluach is fine, but he just seems like such a safe pick.
2-3 years ago we needed safe picks.
We probably need to swing for the fences now

I know you weren’t asking me but I think he’s viewed as a safe pick because you kind of know what he’s going to be. He will be a good defender and lob threat. He’s shown some promise that maybe he has the chance to develop an outside shot, but he’s never going to be a guy who puts the ball on the floor or who is a distributor. He’s likely to be pretty good, but will never be a guy who you run an offense through or that teams really fear on the offensive end.

Yeah Maluach has probably the highest floor of the guys at 7. I’m pretty confident he won’t be a bust and he’ll play in the league for a while. How high is his ceiling is a different question

What’re the chances Egor Demin is there at 23? Probably pretty low right? He’s interesting to me. He’s a huge guard at nearly 6’10. Can’t shoot right now, and is a pretty decent defender.
If Dumars wants to be a huge team then taking Maluach at 7 and Demin at 23 accomplishes that

What about Cedric Coward at 7? I think he may end up as one of the best players in this class. Sounds great in interviews.

Like him as a prospect but he’ll be 22 in September and only played 6 games with Washington State before getting hurt

Ace via trade with Charlotte. If Dumars really likes Bailey, the trade makes sense. Charlotte needs a big and one will likely be available at seventh.
The question is what happens to Trey? The move to acquire AB says a lot. Will the Pels make another move to acquire a point via a trade involving Trey?
