If she builds a new arena, the Catholic Church gets less money. Come on now.

Give it a rest. The Catholic Church has its problems but has done far more for this community than any other religion or private business could ever hope to do.

I know ignorance is bliss, but this talking point has just become an indication of sheer stupidity.

Meanwhile, we win 3 games in a row and we have fans propping up our GM begging him to run it back for year 8 of a roster built around a player that has never played in a playoff game.

Those numbers are outdated… Saints could go for 10 and Pels for 7 now if they hit the market

Too bad Ochsner desperately needed a Benson Children’s hospital next to the Benson cancer center.

I’m not sure being mad about money being donated to fight childhood cancer over being used to build a basketball arena is a hill I would even want to try to climb…

And I hate the catholic religion but you couldn’t be more correct if you tried.

Gayle spends x amount on Catholic Church and other owners probably spend more on political donations for the same inept assholes that can’t run any major city in the us correctly.

And for the world.

The Catholic Church is the largest charity in the world.

And she will need a political Ahole to sign off on all this. Let that sink in.

Not even close. Seattle and Las Vegas are going to fetch $8 billion apiece.

In October 2025, Forbes had us at $3.55 billion. LINK

We also learned he is best friends with Stephen A. Smith. Nice background check by the front office.

That is the number I remembered seeing as well. But maybe they get more in a bidding war.

It's amazing though that everybody keeps saying what a horrible business woman that she is. But Tom Benson died with a net worth in 2018 of about 3B. So in less than 10 years, she has almost tripled that value. How do those people explain that?

It is hard to believe that the expansion fee is going to be that high. I thought they were hoping for 5B. It's wild that it would go for that much.

But when those PE groups lose their bids, they are going to focus on existing teams. I could see one of those throwing a big offer at Benson for the team. Instead of paying 8B for a team in Seattle, they can pay 3B for controlling share of the team. Then spend around billion to help construct a new stadium. So they get an existing team with a new stadium for half the cost. It seems like a no brainer..

I imagine most if not all are ran better than New Orleans though

teams don’t hit the open market often… you have to account for that scarcity

Except for the part where they’d probably rather be in literally ANY other market than ours

Why not ownership pony up some money then use the expansion money on top of that for a new arena?

Build a new arena for 1.2 billion.

Gayle ponies up 600 million (expansion fees will be 500 million so minimal out of pocket for her).

City ponies up 600 million. 1% increase in hotel tax, ticket surcharge, and a stadium zone tax will generate between 40-50 million a year which will cover the debt financing cost of 30 year bonds with some to spare. Politically, most of that revenue is coming from visitors.

Selling naming rights and corporate sponsors to new arena can help pay the bill too. A couple Taylor Swift concerts will help pay that bill too.
