The Lakers' talks with Sacramento on a potential deal headlined by Buddy Hield and Kyle Kuzma are the most serious so far, league sources say, but San Antonio is also believed to have interest in Kuzma in possible sign-and-trade scenarios involving free agent-to-be DeMar DeRozan.

Amazing that Lakers may be able to get real value out of freaking Kuzma.

If Sacramento and SAS bail them out without having the Lakers give out significant value, that would suck for us.

The only solace would be if Lakers gave Derozan a huge deal.

I'd rather Buddy than DeRozan. If they get Buddy and AD and/or LeBron go down, Buddy isn't carrying them. DeRozan could.

Jake Fischer in his reddit Ama says the Pelicans are very confident in their chances to land Lowry and view themselves as the favorites. Also says they would look to move 17 for veteran help.

Jake says the Pelicans would look to keeping Lonzo before looking at Dinwidee

Then Jake replying to Shamit:

They may very well be prioritizing Dinwiddie, but I believe the connection with Zion is important to consider with Lonzo. They are known to be very close.

To get Derozan, also I think they would have to give up 22, Kuzma and possibly even their 27 1st. SAS isn't just going to do them a favor and help them sign a very very good player they would have no chance of signing otherwise.

That basically disallows them from trading a pick until 2029.

That's interesting.

And even me, a Lonzo Hater, would probably rather keep Lonzo over Dinwiddie.

Stein:

, acquiring DeMar DeRozan via sign-and-trade hard caps the Lakers, which could complicate further roster upgrades more than they already are ... suggesting the Hield scenario may be more enticing for the 2020 champs.

"Guys, we are so serial this time. Last chance at Kuz, anyone want him? No one? Really? I swear we have so many trade offers, we just don't know what to do. Please?"

Can they do that since next years pick is owed to us? I guess if it’s a sign and trade, they would make the pick and conclude the deal later….but that’s on the border of tampering.

Yeah you are right I wasn't thinking they cannot do that.

Technically they can trade the player they draft but league would be sniffing around that big time.

They may have to do Kuz and say 2027 first

I really don’t understand how all this sign and trade stuff can get reported so much if the agent isn’t allowed to work with the two teams in question right now.

With Bogdonavic to the Bucks getting killed it was announced as a done deal, not "being discussed", and I would imagine that at least 1 team was interested in him and complained.

You probably have to have both of those factors for the league to care, an agreement in place so the player is effectively off the market before the market even starts, and a team disgruntled enough to file the paperwork to complain about it.

They can actually because on draft night it doesn't become a future pick. Also, the Stepien Rule doesn't mean you can't trade picks in back-to-back years just means you have to have a pick. So, therefore, they can trade tonight's pick once the draft starts and it won't go into affect until after the draft concludes, if that makes sense?

This was his exact quote in the AMA:

quote:

I think NOLA is very confident in their chances, especially if they can add another veteran by trading 17. If they miss out, there's certainly a chance they can bring back Lonzo. He's known to be very close to Zion. But if Lonzo and Zion are both off the board, it's believed Dinwiddie is the Pelicans' next option.

ETA: their chances of acquiring Lowry*
