Yeah, that's what he meant.

He also referenced Lowry here in another answer in regards to who has the best chance to land him:

quote:

At this point, the Pelicans definitely view themselves as the favorite. But I'd think Philly is still such a strong option. There's a known connection between Lowry and Jimmy Butler. That book is not closed yet.

Most likely to land Lowry:

quote:

NOLA, Philly, Miami, Lakers in some order.

well that raises a ton of questions.

How would Philly even get Lowry?

AND...why would a Jimmy Butler connection matter? Pretty sure he doesn't play in Philly anymore.

He mentioned that Toronto is involved in discussions regarding Simmons.

If you look at the follow up thing I quoted, Miami is also in the mix.

ETA: he seems to think that it's Pels, Philly (S&T for Simmons), or Miami for Lowry. Not really high on the Lakers, and no mention of Dallas.

If you are best friends with someone and they tell you a certain org was a pain in the arse to play in, it might weigh on your decision and make you more likely to choose another team. I’m assuming that is what they are hinting at which seems to knock Philly down the list and Miami up the list if they are even a plausible destination.

Also, if we are ahead of Miami, Philly, and Lakers, all significantly better franchises or "destinations" to players...

We are paying a lot more than them. A lot more. Which is...a bit frightening.

That quote from Lowry about focusing on setting his family up for generations scares the shite out of me. Do not want.

Not surprising, but he expects us to trade 17 for a vet, and roll that into the Memphis trade.

Who is a vet the board would be happy with in return for pick 17?

Like ok, if we give him 3/75, that's way more than I want to pay, but alright we can live with it.

If we give this dude 3/90 (or more) without any Team Options...I will be a tad upset.

Ingles (or Bojan)/30 for 17/Iwundu or Gabriel would be something I wouldn't hate.

Then use 30 and 35 to move up to get a guy you want in the 20s.

Well, I think part of it is that Philly would want Toronto to pay more than just Lowry for Simmons, so that complicates things for them. The Lakers don't really have the ability to take Lowry in, unless he takes a significant pay cut, because I don't think the Raptors want Schroeder (apparently there were discussions about the possibility of a swap there at this past deadline).

Now, as far as Miami goes? I don't know why he'd choose us over them, unless we are paying out the arse. It kinda concerns me that maybe we're just being used as leverage to get Miami to maximize an offer for him.

My exact thoughts. I would not doubt Griff will give him 3/$90 million or more.

3/90 would be a tough pill to swallow if its all guaranteed with no team options.

I mean look, we may be way off. Its clear we have to outbid those teams mentioned because almost every player would go to those other teams if all things were equal. That's just reality.

But we could be way off in numbers. It could be 3/60 for all we know.

Everything Lowry is saying makes me scared as shite to sign him. After watching Bledsoe cash a check and phone it in, I am not sure if repeating with a more expensive version is the right move.

Don't see us outbidding other teams at that number.

What's concerning is that Miami can pay him ~25 mil, while keeping the cap holds for both Robinson and Nunn on their books.

So, that tells me that if he's coming here, he's getting more than 25 mil. Unless they are only willing to go 2 guaranteed years, and we're willing to go 3. Then maybe we can get by with only ~25 mil.
