The draft is in 57 days. The Pels aren't making a move like that on short notice.
The timeline is the same as last year when there was a chance that either Demps gets fired instead of Monty or both Demps and Monty get fired. Are you saying that Demps was 100% secure last year? If that's the case it would have been helpful for Monty to know that before allegedly giving a "him or me" ultimatum.
So as long as Loomis is POBO, a Pels GM can only get fired during the season? And that of course probably means the relatively dead period in January/February assuming the Saints aren't in the middle of a playoff, or God forbid, a SuperBowl run. Limiting evaluation of the Pelicans to Loomis' free time is ridiculous and more heat needs to be brought on him for this. Props to Kushner for bringing the GM issue to the forefront and Bobby Hebert for trying to ask about it in a Saints presser. More of you sports media guys need to bring the heat because Loomis as POBO is bad for the Pels.

Bobby Hebert asked Loomis in his pre-draft press conference where Loomis responded with
"Now's not the time Bobby.."
You're not going to get any answers out of Airline unless you hear it straight from the mouth

I heard that and I respect Bobby for asking that.

I swear I saw John Reid act like he said it on twitter, I must have misread the tweet.
Answers would be nice, but they'll give those when they're ready. I'm hoping for people to ask uncomfortable questions that may lead the team to different answers down the line.

Get the feeling we are stuck with yet a 7th year of incompetence. Sad.

A statement was released by Benson about how much fun he and Gayle are having at the Kentucky Derby and it had a small Pelicans nugget worth over analyzing.

"I look forward to an outstanding Kentucky Derby on Saturday, using a productive draft, offseason and upcoming training camp with the Saints as the springboard back to the Super Bowl and reenergizing our fans as we look at every option to get the Pelicans on the road to an NBA championship."

I guess he remembered the name, at least.

Greg Bensel can hack out a statement for Tom on a moment's notice. He's been busy the last couple of years.

Woj just posted a podcast with the Walrus, it's actually not a bad listen and they do mention some things about the Hornets, but why I'm bringing it up here is that he mentioned one of his assistants in Detroit, Andrew Loomis was also part of the FO with the Hornets. Is Andrew related to Mickey? If so then no wonder he thinks he can do the job and he's probably never going to give it up.
Bonus feature, I haven't listened to it yet but our favorite former Hornet, Austin Rivers, gave Woj an interview too where he "goes into detail about his frustrations as a lottery pick in New Orleans who failed to live up to expectations and was essentially given away for nothing."

Could be happening

According to a source I have, I heard the Pels have decided to fire Demps. I'd expect the firing to come Sunday or early next week, after the Kentucky Derby. This is just info that I heard, not 100% sure

Not just a reliable poster, he's had inside info before. Ryno's injury and at least one other thing that he knew what was going on when everyone else was still guessing. That Hammond/Dumars leak seemed pretty significant to me, and I can only think of a few motivations for it:
1) Hammond was trying to make the Bucks think he really is leaving if they don't get rid of Kidd. I can kind of see this, but it really seems like last year was the time to play that card. They gave him a one year extension to stick around in a bad situation longer. How often do you get pushed out of your job by cronyism and then win your job back because of the crony's incompetence? That situation usually ends with the competent guy moving on and the company spiraling downward because they're run by people stupid enough to think cronyism is a good idea.
2) Dumars was floating a trial balloon to see if the public was more receptive to him. Something he'd only do if he sensed weakness in Demps' position.
3)

if true, i would have such mixed emotions. dell definitely needed to go last year, so i'm happy they are starting fresh, and I know dell will pick up a FO job elsewhere really fast. but i'm also pissed they fired monty instead of giving him one more year OR they should have fired both and given the new GM the ability to hire a new coach. it looks so bad to fire the guy they kept over the other guy they fired.

This is what I was calling for. The timing meant exactly what we're seeing now was a likely outcome. Hiring JVG as HC and POBO might have been a disaster, but at least you'd have given it your best shot instead of a half measure.

Yeah he's solid. He knows things for sure.
frick it's happening isn't it

Even if it is happening, I have ZERO faith in them making a good hire to replace Demps. And even less faith in Loomis giving up his control of the team.
And i'm sure the next GM will be given the same "win yesterday" orders that forced Demps' hand. Demps wasn't some scrub they pulled off the street. He was thought to have a really bright future as a GM when he was hired. Phoenix practically begged him to take their job. I have no idea what direction he might have taken with competent bosses and different marching orders.

Right. I've said I'd take Dumars/Hammond over Loomis/Schlenk and I really like Schlenk. If all we see is the GM being replaced we're probably more likely to spiral into a Sacramento style dumpster fire that finds itself in this exact same situation 2-3 years from now than rise to contention.
