I just want us to stop being injured and not make as many stupid decisions

The crazy thing is that pretty much every move that had significant message board and blog resistance has turned out terribly. Drafting Rivers, Matching rather than trading Gordon, Trading for Tyreke and the subsequent Asik moves. The common thread between all of those moves wasn't actually the cost, the people that didn't like those moves at the time didn't like the player or that player's fit.
People thought we overpaid for Jrue, but for the most part they didn't hate the idea of adding Jrue to the team. Basically Demps went out and added as much talent as he could as quickly as he could instead of being patient and only make moves to add the right talent.
Realistic hindsight Interwebz roster management
Out:
Rivers
Gordon
Tyreke
Asik
In:
John Henson/Terrence Jones/Jared Sullinger
Jared Dudley, Rodney Hood and the Philly Lakers pick
Vasquez, Robin Lopez
2015 1st

So fricking terrible. We basically gave up a solid rotation PG who fit the team, a solid 2-way starting center, and a 1st for a defensive center and tweener who can't seem to fit.

Lopez was fricking terrible here and Vasquez can't even get playing time on the Bucks. I don't see how that trade was bad.

Is the NFL draft over yet so that Loomis can pretend to give a frick about the Pels?

The Pels are still a team? shite, between the Saints and the horses, forgot all about them....

His advanced stats say he was slightly above average. 18.9 PER (Bigs often have inflated PERs because of all the close shots, but that's the highest PER of his career and still a good number even if it's inflated. He also had a WS/48 of .126, .100 is considered above average. And you have to remember we are comparing Lopez and 2015 1st vs. Asik. Even if you forget this terrible year for Asik, his PER last season was 15.5, and his a WS/48 was .120. Slightly below RoLo's as a Hornican. They are roughly in the same tier, they just bring different things to the table. You have to really love you some Tyreke to think Asik > Lopez + mid 1st.

You'd have trouble playing on crutches too. He started missing games due to an ankle/foot injury November 29th, rested it for 2 weeks then had surgery in mid December and didn't get cleared to play again until the very end of March. But you are trying to rebut a point that is negative towards Tyreke so who cares about the details, right?

We didn't have to trade Lopez for Reke that was Dell's dumb decision.

A tweener who was one of the main reasons we got to the playoffs. He was never healthy this season, lets see what he can do at full strength.

We needed the cap space to complete the trade, who else would we have traded, Ryno? Jason Smith + multiple scrubs? We also didn't pay to dump Lopez, we got paid sort of with Withey. Could you dump Jason Smith and multiple scrubs for free? It'd probably cost at least a future 2nd, and not the pretend kind.

We got to the playoffs because Durant was badly injured most of the season and Westbrook missed significant time and AD iced them in a career highlight game and then put down 31 against the Spurs.
Tyreke did fine in a system like Monty's where we played to Tyreke's game and tried to hide him defensively. In his limited time in an up tempo, pass heavy, ball sharing system he has not been ideally effective. Couple that with his comments and push back and if we can move him for something more fitting I would.

I can make those same excuses about Jrue and others being injured last season. OKC wasnt the only team that didnt make the playoffs.
Well, Tyreke was also still injured in that limited time he played this season. Im not sure if he wouldve been a fit, but playing on 1 leg didnt help.

Asik was one of the main reasons we made the playoffs last year.

But the problem is he'd have to completely change the way he plays to do what Gentry wants. We're not talking about changing skills like adding a 3 point shot, we're talking about changing his basketball instincts. Ryan Schwann has some good analysis of why Jrue is a less than perfect fit to run the system and this seems like it would apply to Tyreke as well.
quote:
Jrue comes close – but he’s less a natural passer and more of a set play guy. He’ll run a play and make the designed passes inside that play. It can be effective, but not dynamic.
Tim Frazier runs a play and makes the right pass inside that play. If there is a defensive breakdown, creating an unexpected opportunity, he finds it. He takes advantage of the fact that the Pelicans have a bunch of hungry guys just dying to make an impression right now – cutting and getting out on the break – and always has his head up, looking to find them.
LINK
This isn't saying Tim Frazier > Jrue or Tyreke, but what Gentry needs for his system just isn't 2nd nature for Jrue and Tyreke. It bothers me to be tailoring our roster to a coach I hope is gone in 2 years, but returning to the playoffs this year is very important for our chances at keeping AD long term.
We need to get more Gentry guys on this team. I've chosen Jrue over Tyreke not because I think Jrue can be the lead guard we need, but because I think his defensive versatility and shooting allows him to play a position other than lead guard. If he didn't have that I'd be looking to move Jrue too.

You can't make assumptions based on opinions Tyreke started playing more towards the system his last couple of games. Now imagine him getting training camp, not coming off surgurey a few weeks ago, and not only having 20 games to adjust.

Lets not be silly here. That team last year finished the post all star run with Norris Cole having a career year, a healthy Davis and Gordon(shooting a career high 3p%), Qpon having a career year on both sides of the ball and Asik actually showing some worth. Not to mention Jrue coming back and playing a huge role with Cole off the bench.
Compare that to our post all star team this year, there is no comparison unless you selectively ignore context to suit your argument.
What we have seen and heard form Evans in this system has not been close to ideal. He has a long road to walk to be optimal in this system and I'm not sure its a worthwhile risk if we can get some good value in back...Which the chances seem low so you are likely going to get your wish to run it back next season.
