Interesting point from 42 regarding incentives. Maybe they're mostly done.

Now that the deals are done... Keep in mind the Pelicans
1) need bodies
2) may need 10 days
And may still have incentives trigger and put them into the tax.
Being close to the tax with incentives, depending their nature (forget "likely" or not), is willingness to pay tax.

No surprise, #Pelicans @PelicansNBA can’t unload Ajinca contract at #NBATradeDeadline
Also, unable to add role players.
So, barring a miracle on the buyout market the #DoItBig Pels are what they are for remainder of the season.
The race to No. 8 is on!!!

I wonder what it's like to be hated by the fans and the team at the same time.

Sources: The Kings are waiving center Georgios Papagiannis, who was their No. 13 overall selection in the 2016 draft.

Right after the draft selection:
quote:
Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins is staying focused on playing for Team USA at the Rio Olympics in a few weeks, but did admit that he doesn’t completely agree with his team’s decisions in the draft, according to the Sacramento Bee.
The Kings made headlines when they decided to move down in the draft from the No. 8 pick to No. 13, taking Greek big man Georgios Papagiannis with that pick. Sacramento also drafted Kentucky forward Skal Labissiere, giving the team a glut of big men.
“I really don’t understand it,” Cousins said when asked about the Papagiannis pick, “but I do my job.”
Cousins made it clear that he had no control of the draft process and doesn’t plan on talking about it too much.
“I do my job,” Cousins said, according to the Sacramento Bee. “I can’t control (the draft). I control what I can control.”

Kings had made Georgios Papagiannis very much available in trade discussions. Obvious now that there was little to no interest in trading for the him. Now that he's free, interesting to see if that changes

Only played in 16 games and 8 mins per. Probably more of a D League two way type guy than someone who could help now.

Sign Papagiannis and the Pels can say they added the 2016 #13 pick and 2015 #17 pick in Vaugn. LOL

Bigs take longer to become useful, but the league is running away from guys like him. If you're over 7 feet tall you better either be elite on offense or defense, or good at one and passable at the other. The league no longer has room for one way centers that are just decent on the side of the ball they skew towards, not even as backups.

He probably won't help a G League team now.

The Lakers are saying they're keeping both Lopez and Frye. It's a good thing Diallo has been looking passable because there may not be any worthwhile options. I'd rather develop Diallo than take a shot at Papagiannis.

quote:I could see a spot for both honestly. PapaG could be used when we need a big body just to bang. Diallo cannot do that and I would prefer if AD got a break every so often from doing it. That assumes PapaG could handle that role.

The Kings were not pleased with Georgios Papagiannis' slow development, but waiving him? Didn't see this coming, especially after they picked up his option.
Development is not something we're too interested in

I guess in that case the question would be Papagiannis or Okafor. That answer probably has to do with both how Okafor looks the next few games, and what kind of mentoring he's doing with Diallo.

quote:Agree. I would like to see how Okafor performs and how much stamina he has at this point in his career. He did not play a ton of minutes even in the G league. Can he handle the rigors of playing the 5 in the NBA any more?
