Unfortunately the Pels don't have the roster spots or tax space to absorb much. Turning Rivers into QPon added about $1 million to our salary IIRC and that would put us in the tax if we did that this year. We can't even do something like Ajinca/Diallo to Atlanta for a 2nd and then absorb Vince Carter. He makes $8 and you only dumped $6.5. It will be pretty hard to wait to the end and be a facilitator.

Best case scenario in terms of small moves that don't involve the pick would be something like Ajinca/Diallo for Justin Holiday and then use the extra salary to sign a bought out center.

I agree, and i don't think he will be traded. And to be honest, i'm not sure how we can trade him and stay under the tax next year. Well i do, but i don't think it's worth it. You can trade him for an expiring contract, but that will require you to give up a 1st round pick. Kind of stupid to do that knowing you can't resign whoever you just traded for, and Asik will only cost $3M on your books the next two years if you stretch him, so you traded away a first round pick to save $3M. Pretty dumb.
He isn't getting traded, and he will be stretched next offseason.

Ajinca is a different story. He's the one that needs to be moved now for cost savings. If we can't find the right deal for him now, he's without a doubt going to get QPon'd this offseason. Someone will take him for our 2019 second round pick.

A guy i would really like to get is Taurean Prince, but i don't think Atlanta would give him up for Ajinca/Diallo and a 1st.
A lineup of Jrue/Solo/Prince/AD/Cousins would be awesome defensively. Prince is shooting close to 40% from 3 in his second year and if Solo can hit them above 37%, that's a damn good lineup.

re: Official 2018 Trade Deadline Thread: Update Dante to Brooklyn
Prince and Anunoby are 2 guys I had been hoping to be able to draft. I guess Brogdon fits in with these 2 obvious finds as well. If there's an upperclassman mid-late 1st round 3 and D wing that looks like he'll never be more than a 3 and D wing, the Pels would definitely benefit more from drafting that player than dumping Asik instead of stretching him.

I doubt Atlanta trades Prince, but I certainly would trade a 1st to have the type of player we're looking for but being a 2nd year guy instead of a rookie.

What do you think it would take to get Prince?
Ajinca/Diallo 2018 1st and 2019 second? Still don't think they'd do that, and i wouldn't trade the 2018 and 2020 first round pick for him, unless the 2020 had some very nice protections.
I really think that kid will be a stud. Very similar to Tony Snell, but i think he's a notch better than him, and he plays stronger and can cover the small ball 4. Snell seems like he has zero defensive iq.

I'd even take Bembry from them for Diallo.

Why would the Hawks deal Prince?

I'm thinking he's not for sale at a reasonable price. Look how highly Boston was valuing Jae Crowder. He's like a 75 NBA2k player but because of the low supply and high demand for those types of players Boston was acting like he was an 85.

We need someone like Andre Roberson for some help on Defense. We don't need another star player, although hey I'm not opposed to it. We should build our team similar to Houston; two superstars and a plethora of quality role players. We're on the verge of that, just need to sure up that defense.

b/c the Hawks suck and we want him more than they do.

in all seriousness, i doubt they would let him go, or Collins for that matter.

Carroll is averaging 13 points, 6.7 boards and 2 assists per game this season.

@LegionHoops is the main account.

Carroll is probably the type/level player the Pelicans would look at. Carroll's never really looked right since he hurt his knee a few years ago.

I hate the idea of a Carrol trade. You'd use a 1st to get a guy that's mediocre at best and you don't actually clear cap space for next year.

exactly. It would be a terrible trade. I seriously doubt you could trade him in the offseason, and if you did, what was the point?
Asik is like an expiring for us right now. We kind of need to keep him.
Unless you're trading Solo for Carroll, it makes no sense.

Solo/Ajina/Diallo/1st for Carroll/Dinwiddie

The only way I like it is if they got another guy lined up with the extra roster spot. Like, you do that deal, then use an exception to get another guard or big in a subsequent trade or on the buyout market

re: Official 2018 Trade Deadline Thread: Update Dante to Brooklyn
I would take Carroll to get Dinwiddie. His contract and skill set fit make him the square peg we’re looking for. Stretching Carroll’s $15 over 3 is worse than Asik’s $14 over 5, but it ends 2 years sooner so in some ways it’d be better.

Imagine:

Rondo/Dinwiddie/Nelson
Jrue/Clark/Jackson
Carroll/Miller
AD/DC
DMC/Monroe(Or even Frye)

What about Moore and Clark? Assuming you’re referring to the Solo/Ajinca/Diablo trade.

Agree. Unless we get someone like Dinwiddie in return and can shed both Asik and Ajinca in the deal.

I don't think Dinwiddie is a through in. I think you'd have to give up something real to get him. I think k Zeller could be a throw in. Or maybe Harris.or a second round pick.

Dinwiddie isn't a throw in. I think Asik/Ajinca/1st for Demarre and a 2nd is fair for both sides. But again, I want a solid guy coming with that extra roster spot too

It might fair in the sense that they are trading 2 worthless guys for someone who can play and get a decent 2nd back, but it would be a terrible move even if they get a solid guy with the extra roster spot.

The only way this makes sense Ian if you fear missing the playoffs AND Boogie walking if you do. Otherwise why would you commit to paying the tax for Demarre? The other solid guy won’t aign long term.

I hate the idea of paying a 1st to dump Asik at this point or even convert him to a mildly useful player. The 1st should only be used for a needle moving player or a cost controlled longer term contract.

I'm with you on all of that.
Carroll is basically Solo. We don't need two of those players.

I know everyone wants to dump Asik/Ajinca, but this isn't dumping them.
Trading them for something like Belinelli/Ilyasova is dumping them.
